Even if he is, which I don't believe is the case, this is hardly relevant seeing as he played at left back for us

I would have to disagree. Particularly in an attacking sense

There may be something in this theory. Yiadom and White both seem to fall more into the wingback category than traditional 4-4-2 fullbacks and Moncur would seem best suited to a three in midfield playing in front of, say, Josh and Conor. Putting 2 + 2 together to get 5 I know but this morning's puzzling announcement leaves something of a vacuum.

tbf if we stick with a back 4 we'll be up against teams with a lot more power and pace than last year - as good as a defender Williams was is he physically up to that ? I'd have liked him to be given the chance in all honesty

There's another way of looking at this. If they had signed the contracts straightaway this couldn't have happened. If you snooze, you lose.

George Smith was a decent solid League 1 Full Back at the age of 18/19. Crawley fans raved about him when he was on loan there. Surely we should have just loaned out and then see where he is when he reaches the age of 20/21?

George Williams should be first choice RB/LB whether we're in the championship or not. Quality defender who always puts in 110%. We won't get anyone better.

Williams contract is either not enough, or he has been caught talking to someone else. Got to be, as he is a good full back

I thought that Williams was our most improved player last season. Cannot understand why we have let him go. Seems bizarre.

I have nothing to add that others haven't already said. I am genuinely disappointed by the decision to let Williams go.

    Re: I can understand Smith

Genuinely puzzled and disappointed at this news. As OngoingCoud1887 above said, Smith was highly regarded at Crawley on loan.

But Williams being released is more bizarre. There must be more to it than meets the eye, as no doubt we'll find out in due course.

Surprised by that. Liked them both. Thought both had something to offer, particularly George Williams. Best of luck to both.

Sad to see both of them go. Smith is still really young and has shown some potential - disappointed we've not kept him on, even if he was going to be loaned out

Wanted to keep Smith & loan him out.

Saw Williams as a key squad player able to cover both RB & LB so a bit gutted. Wish them both well & hope they have brilliant careers, can't fault either of them for the effort they've given this club

As I posted earlier, Roy, I too am sad to see two lads who I liked being allowed to leave. But I know for a fact Hecky knows far more about this situation and how to deal with it than I & anyone on social media will ever.
