I saw George's debut at Deepdale and the first game of the season and Chesterfield and I thought he looked every bit the Conference North player. The loan spell at Barrow must have done him the world of good because I cannot think of another Barnsley player who improved so much in such a short space of time. Superb attitude and a great professional and I wish him nowt but the best.

If George's Dad will pardon my crudeness, I think we've dropped a right bollock here...

Oh ****, the French have scored. :(

Thanks for filling in the blanks. I thought the only thing he may have struggled with in championship was pace but i sure would have given him a chance to prove himself. You can make up for pace with good decision making and good reading of the game a la a certain Bobby Hassell would probably tell you! Wish he had given it a go but its a also a shame the club didn't reward him with an improved contract after last years efforts. Disappointing.

I think he would be great at Bradford or Chesterfield. Who brought him to Barnsley? Was it Wilson? Why not take him there with him again.

Probably one of the weirdest decisions I've seen in 50 years supporting the club. Up there with letting David Speedie go to Darlington for £5k. That went well didn't it?. George was just about my favourite player during that fantastic run from November onwards. Think we will regret this big time. All the best George. Sincerely hope you make us regret it.

Sorry disagree, not a good comparison. George has left on good terms with everyone and will be affectionately remembered.apparently Speedie fell out with Alan Clarke and left on non- footballing reasons.

You are entitled to your opinion. So am I. The decision I'm referring to is based upon ability. It was obvious to me at the time that letting Speedie go was a mistake. I believe that letting George go is also a mistake. By the way, I know the real reason why Speedie left. Unbelievably stupid.

I think George has been absolutely superb since coming in to the side in January. It's been a pleasure watching someone give everything they've got for the club. And he's a good defender. A proper old fashioned full back who simply won't let the opposition past him. Exactly what we needed. I'm disappointed he won't be at Barnsley next season. I thought he could improve further and make the grade at Championship level, but it's not my choice. I wish George all the luck in the world in his future career, he's a credit to his profession.

Thanks for the memories George. You'll never be forgotten as you played a major part of one of the most remarkable run of results any of us will ever see.

Is it how most of us feel. I think the club are dropping a serious bollock here.

I think we should start a campaign to make them have a rethink.

I thought G.Williams looked very promising in the 14/15 season. I remember him bombing down the wing in the 5-0 against Rochdale and he looked decent on his debut at Deepdale.

I was pleased he was given a chance against Chesterfield on the first day even if it was only from the bench. I was gutted for him when he made a mistake and annoyed at LJ for chucking him out of the side for so long because of it.

To be honest, when I saw he was loaned out to Barrow I thought that would be the end for him. At the age of 22 players need to be getting in the first team not in the Conference.

It looked like it was going to be the end for him until (correct me if I'm wrong) White got injured and he was given a chance. His first game back was Rochdale at home right? I think he played in that game but I'm absolutely certain he played on the following Tuesday against Bradford City. That game at Valley Parade he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. There was no way in hell the very talented Mark Marshall was going to get past him that night! Probably the performance of the season out of all the players.

From that game on he has been sensational. I follow the team home & away and I can tell you he was the most consistent player in the 2nd half of the season. Always puts in 110%. I love how he gets stuck in!

I was disgusted this morning when I heard the news and it seems I'm not the only one. I can't think of a player more deserving of a contract extension.

Thank you for everything George. I have a feeling we'll deeply regret this decision in a few years.

Baffled by the clubs decision but everyone wishes George the best for the future and hope he gets a decent deal at a club in L1 or higher (except Sheff Utd or Wednesday or Leeds !!)

I have read all the testimonials about George on this forum, on Facebook and Twitter. I can't add anything to them because everything complimentary that can be said as already been said, that is a fine testimonial in itself!!!

I tweeted this morning that I should have been happy when Hecky was appointed, but in fact i was sad because of the releasing of George!!

George then to my amazement 'liked' the tweet, this once again showed the person that he is, what a fine human being!!

Thanks for the memories George you will forever be remembered by me.

Can't really offer anything else than what others have said apart from reiterating what a baffling decision this is by the club.

We knew we'd have to make some changes/improvements this Summer due to losing the loan players and just general strengthening for a higher league but an issue at right or left back never seemed to come into anyone's mind?

If the contract withdrawl has been done in George's best interests to allow him to get first team football elsewhere then you have to commend the club in the some respects for that but it's hard to look past the fact that he was deserving of first team football at Barnsley.

I wish him all the best for the future, I'll be keeping an eye out for how he gets on, he should easily get something at the top end of League 1.

I actually think this is the first time the BBS has EVER agreed on something, we've let a fine player go.

And so you should be proud, George has been an integral part of the astonishing turnaround in our fortunes and I am genuinely stunned by the club's attitude.

Cool, classy and composed, solid in defence and good going forward and still only 23.

What the hell more do they want?

I can only assume we are about to sign Luke Shaw, Danny Rose, Kyle Walker, Philip Lahm, Carlos Alberto, Danny Alvez...and I'd still prefer George Williams.

Absolute shocker Barnsley. Get it sorted and sign him up on a proper deal.

surely the weirdest decision was when Flitcroft dropped Steele for being too old then replaced him with Mike (best mate) Pollitt

Really disappointed to see Williams go. I understand the reasoning behind it, but don't agree with it on this occasion.

The whole thing reminds me a little of the Nicky Eaden situation when he was released initially and then ultimately retained during the summer months after a change of manager. Eaden proved to be one of our most quietly consistent players in his time here and is rightly remembered as part of that epic promotion squad.

I wish there could be a similar change of heart on this occasion, but don't see it being a realistic option now. Best wishes for the future George Williams.
