For an improving, reliable, versatile, intelligent, hard working and very fit 22 year old footballer.

George Williams was such a breath of fresh air.

It just seems a no brainer to me? I can't weigh it up.

George has stopped every winger in his path since his return on loan. He might not have the technical ability of Bree or the speed of Aidy White. But what he does have is the ability to defend with intelligence and the aggression and nouse to know when to put someone on the stand.

In fact I think everyone on this forum would agree with me when I say he is by far and away the best one on one defender we have had in a fullback position since...Bobby Hassell... And I include John Stones in that.

I am not saying I know that George Williams could have made the step up. But I do 100% believe that everytime he stepped in he would have given 150% and he definitely deserved a chance to get this opportunity. If his performances were as solid as they have been then regular games would have come naturally. I don't buy the 'we can't guarantee you regular football'. How can we say that when we currently have no better fullback at the club than George?

I love Aidy White, I love James Bree. But both are unreliable. They're injury prone. Bree is still making mistakes and if there is doubt over Georges ability as a Championship defender then their certainly must be doubts over White and Bree. Yiadom too maybe?

George Williams is an absolute diamond. He was definitely worth his wages and a years contract whatever way you look at it.

Couldn't agree more. I wish both parties could get in touch, hold up their hands, admit they've made mistakes and sort out this sad mess.

What if the 1150 was the extra 1150 that persuaded Adam to stay?

Unless there's something they haven't told us?

Sounds like, from what Observer said, GW wants to play every week and BFC can't give him that.

Could it not have been a typo? He said " He did ask for an additional £150 per week; he was offered £1,050."

Maybe it should have been, that he was offered an additional '£105'

I think that Williams has show more ability than Bree has shown potential.

I'd love Bree to step up, but Williams is fit, strong and has a first class attitude.

Additionally can play comfortably at LB.

    PLEASE have a re-think.

I think you have all got the wrong end of the stick. It wasn't about the money, the club felt that they couldn't offer George much first team action next year, therefore withdrew the offer out of respect and as a gesture of goodwill so that GW could find a club without the issue of compensation for us.

Although I disagree that GW isn't good enough to get a fair few games for us next year, I think the club have acted with integrity and if you actually read what Georges Dad has wrote on here I think he feels the same. Its a shame and I hope George all the best.

Id still have him here but it could be a sliding doors moment for all concerned.

It was George Williams' decision ultimately. He was told he'd be back up to what Hecky considers his strongest team to be. He's 23 and wants 1st team football. He told the club he wouldn't sign under those conditions. The club withdraws their offer to allow him to find a new club without said club needing to compensate BFC. It's not about wages, it's about the people who decide the playing staff telling him where he sits in our club and GW deciding it's time to move on. No more, no less.

But I don't understand how anyone can say you're not guaranteed to play. I mean surley no one is guaranteed to play?

I'm presuming Aidy White is going to be first choice left back. But Aidy White is injured regularly which would give George chance to prove himself.

If Aidy White is going to be second choice left back then I'd have rather saved the wages on him and had George at just over a grand a week.

Exactly this. George was great for us last season and wish him the best in his career but don't think a great deal more needs to be said about the issue.

But if he backs his own ability then he'd stay and prove himself? No one can say to any of our regular first team players that they won't be good enough to play regular next season.

They were all more than good enough for league one and all deserved a crack at Championship level.

No player is guaranteed to play. Or at least they shouldn't be.

I remember having a trial with Worsbrough Bridge in my younger days, as a keeper. During the first session, before we'd actually been near a ball, the manager told me I'd be better off going elsewhere as they'd promised another bloke would be the first team keeper. I replied "But what if I'm better than he is?". He gave me a blank look, so I went and played for Redfearns.

If George Williams himself wanted to leave to have a better chance of first team football, that's up to him, but if he stayed he would have that option anyway in the Christmas transfer window. I don't know how all of this works of course, but I think it has all the makings of a complete howler.

I love George Williams as a footballer but it's done now and we need to move on.

I agree with your version, it's not about the money, but I don't agree with the club's assessment of his value to the team. However, they are far far better qualified to take that view than I am.

From the point of view of the lad himself, I'm disappointed that he doesn't want to battle and prove them wrong and try and fight for a place in the team. I really think that my thinking in his situation is that I'd muck in and fight for my place, and see what happens, then if all goes wrong I'd try and move on in the January window.

Maybe I'm writing with emotion, which is a bad ingredient for a good decision, but I'm really sad about this whole business. Whatever happens, good luck to the lad.

This is what I don't understand though. I'd have Williams over White at left back personally and yet we haven't retracted the offer for white.

    Completely agree.

My argument is I feel these young lads have stepped up and done all that was asked of them and more.

Surely reward in any career /job is the chance to move forward when you've achieved the said target.

George was integral to our promotion so surely he's now a championship player and deserves the chance at least to prove that

I can't help but feel that any threads that mention the amount should be deleted. He's looking for a new club, who's going to offer him more than the amount his dad has publically said he will accept?

I also think George should have stayed and battled for his place. I know it's a tough choice to make but as people have said above, injuries do occur and so you can just never know. I bet last summer he never thought he would be playing some many games in the first team at LB but it happened. Couldn't he have stayed and gone on loan to a L1 club with a recall clause for the best of both worlds (not sure if allowed with the changes to loans next season).

Hecky dropped him twice in the run in to put Bree back in, we lost both games, Aidy White isn't a natural left back, his preferred position is Hammills one, against Oxford in J P T both crosses for oxfords goals were ones White didn't block ,he is not natural defender, Bree is slower than Wiliams ,the chesterfield winger ripped him to bits for pace and trickery ,want both White and Bree to prove me wrong but don't think either better than Williams
