I'd say Williams has shown more ability than Bree, holgate or white. In fact I'd say he performed better at full back than stones did for us

It is good that fans are being loyal to the team that did so well in the second half of last season. However, the question is not whether that team was good enough to be promoted. The question is, is that team good enough to survive in the Championship. My own view is that it will need to be strengthened, not only in the first eleven, but also those supporting the first eleven. If the team is to be strengthened, then unfortunately, some of the players who served us so well last season will have to move on, and so must the fans. It is sad, but that is football.

George Williams played most of his games at left back primarily because he was covering for injury. However, as well as he did, his left foot is not his best, and that is a primary requirement of a left back. It limits his effectiveness going forward, as these days, a full back is required to be a mid-field player when we have the ball, and a defender when we do not. Given his attacking limitations in League 1, I have serious doubts about his potential to play on the left side in the Championship. He is behind White (provided White re-signs), and we are probably looking for a left sided back-up for White.

Strangely, I always thought him less capable at right full back. His lack of pace and reluctance to get forward in support of the winger always seemed more obvious on that side for some reason that I am unable to explain. For me, there are two players ahead of him for a place in the team at right back.

I am sorry to see George go. He was a member of the team that gave me a day at Wembley that I will always remember, but a team that is not improving is going backward.

We have limited funds.. and apart from Burton the smallest budget in the Champ. We are doing what we think to give us the best fighting chance next season.
I as well thought George Willo was more than decent.. and expected his to be given a go next season, but the management think not. I leave it to them.
But if we are letting the likes of Willo go then my incoming transfer expectations have just gone up a notch or two..

And well-done to the club for going against club policy and withdrawing the contract offer, so no compo.... That allows George to be a free agent...

In Patrick Ben and Hecky we trust....

I love Williams & I wish he was staying but some of you are going over the top. He's not better than Stones & he wasn't better than Golbourne either. Let's remember the level we were playing at then.

23 games he played 15 goals conceded 3 games he was dropped or subbed 6 goals conceded , no matter what level we was at that's amazing, stones and golbourne all played in losing teams

White and Bree both worry the hell out of me. Bree has a clanger in him (understandable given age and fact he is supposed to be better at CM) and white never seems to close down crosses. He's quick going forward, and was good linking up with Adam, but in Championship he was deemed not good enough for Rotherham. Then add their fitness into the mix and I'd say we're on the trail of at least 2 new full backs to supplement those two and Yiadom who hasn't played above L2!

That's got absolutely nothing to do with it.

Stones & Golbourne were playing in one of the worst teams in the league without a pot to piss in & Scott Wiseman in central defence & Steven Dawson in midfield.

Barnsley had one of the biggest budgets in league one & one of the best teams so of course Williams will win more games than Stones & Golbourne did in the championship.

We're talking about who's the best defender & Stones & Golbourne were clearly better full backs than Williams. I can't believe that's even up for debate.

No offence but you rate Wiseman & think Hassell is **** so I don't think you're clued up on full backs

I tried the bourbon position once, but it wasn't long before it turned into a custard cream
