To stop the referendum, they are claiming that it should be parliament and not the people should decide whether we stay or leave. Seems to be a sign of panic from the stayers.
To be honest that's my position. I've no idea which way to vote, I can't be bothered to try to sift all the misinformation to find out what the truth is. I'm demoralised by the scare stories on both sides, I don't trust the politicians on either side, I'm bored senseless by the whole thing and can't wait for Friday. These guys get paid a lot of money to make decisions and they should earn it, not pass the buck on to us. I'll be up on top of Mallerstang Edge in the Yorkshire Dales on Thursday in a referendum free zone in a tent, so may the best side win.
I agree 100%. I feel uninformed about the decision. The public at large are extremely uninformed and shouldn't be trusted to make the decision IMO.
We lend our MP's power , including the govt of the day - that power is returned to us at a general election. Our representatives have slowly been giving that power over to the EU, (Maastricht, Treaty of Lisbon etc ) without permission - afaik not in their manifesto's. At last we have a say. It's about time we had a say in this transfer of our power and self determination Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The petition is here https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/123450 If you keep clicking Refresh on that page you can see the number of signatures rising all the time. It will be interesting if it gets to 100,000!
It will be a parliamentary decision. If you think the referendum is anything but a token gathering of public opinion, you have not been reading the small print. Brexit is a charade, has been all along.
Who's fault is that. The very people that are voted into power. The one thing I've learnt in life is that information is power. The ones who hoard it stop the ones with potential from rising up the ladders... The ones who obtain that information generally **** everything up purely because they don't share it and want to keep it themselves for fear of subordinates overtaking them.
They don't have to withdraw from the EU if the vote is in favour of leave - going to be very interesting after the vote
I was straight down the middle before it all started. The remain team seem far more nervous and have lied far more and I think that may swing it for my vote. One thing for sure....I now know and hopefully the rest of the UK should acknowledge what a bunch of liars they all are! As for the petition.....hard lines....this was a Tory vote winner at the last election. Let the fun commence.
its alright saying the public are largely uninformed, well you could say that about every single general election as many of the public vote for a party or even dont vote for a party simply because they like or dislike a person or people within those parties,in the main the public at large are completely unaware of what is going on in the commons and are even more unaware of the rulins that have an effect on their lives. If we are stopping the referendum because a large percentage of mp's want to stay in europe then we may as well chuck the ballot box in the channel now, because last time i heard our mp's are there to act on our behalf. you can never get the true facts either for the in or the out case, because its hypothetical, its all in the future,no body really knows what will happen.
I'm not voting, I'm off up in the hills with a tent enjoying myself on a 10 day 125 mile walk from Horton in Ribblesdale (http://www.wildyorkshireway.co.uk/stage.php?Index=14) to Kilburn (http://www.wildyorkshireway.co.uk/stage.php?Index=23)
Whatever your view as far as Remain or Leave goes it's too important a decision to leave to MP's who will be bullied by the whips...or deselected if they don't vote The Leader's way. I agree the subject is complicated and often difficult to sort the wheat from both sides chaff , but the beauty of a referendum is the millions of citizens voting all have one thing at heart...doing the best for the country's future without pressure being applied from above . The Tories took us in in 1973 without a vote from the people...having promised us a vote...they shouldn't in my view be allowed to get away with it again.
The people of this country have an opinion on this subject and need to make it heard. In the end, it doesn't matter whether it is the right decision or not, as we will never really know for sure which way is the right way, as we will only witness the consequences of one of those routes. The important thing is that the people of this country will decide. It is called democracy and it is the cornerstone of our civilization. I just cannot understand anyone having the view that we shouldn't be allowed to have the ability to make our voice heard. If that is what you believe then move to North Korea.
