Good luck to you, thank you for everything you've done while you've been here, but it's poisonous that place, it'll rip the soul from you. I understand the attraction, the potential they have and that your standing is very high right now, but if you'd stuck with us a bit longer you would have got better than Leeds U ******* nited. I'll always have time for you because this year was so ******* special, so best of luck, even at that **** hole.
i agree with you on this jay. i totally get ben's ambition to move elsewhere. that's what CEO's do. they have a very short lifespan at any one place. i'm surprised at leeds though. i can only put it down to coin and networking. he's probably giving himself 2 years there tops, before he looks for his next move.
Leeds are a complete basket case, and as such I was also thinking that he doesn't plan on staying there very long. Just as a stepping stone it's quite a big name to have on your CV. I still think he's a loon for going anywhere near the place, but I understand his motivation for doing so.
I can't blame him for cashing in while his stock is highest. Though I'd question business ethics and morality in the choice he's made. I think he's improved in his role. And its important to judge him over his tenure and not just a 5-6 month period that was unprecedented. He worked hard to bridge gaps with supporters. And when things were going well, he was communicative, giving of time and highly visible. We mustn't forget though, when times got hard, he was found wanting. His communications at the time of the Wilson sacking were woeful. Seemingly disingenuous, conflicting, and riddled with holes and he was shaky and unconvincing. At the time we lost every game, he was completely invisible and from giving interviews every week, he went awol. Overall, I think he's done an ok job. But when under pressure and scrutiny, I thought he showed naivety and inexperience. A role at Leeds will put massive scrutiny and pressure on him. I would hope any systems, processes or development he has bee part of, is retained in the club and is available to new people. I'd hope Watkins far superior legal and business knowledge, and Patricks business and financial knowledge are continued to be leveraged and shared within the club for its betterment.
Wow....good luck Ben. Leeds eh? Do we think he will be good there? Cellinos Leeds are different gravy!...................not sure what the hell is going off at that club and I don't think anyone does, associated with the club. I am NOT a Leeds basher but the money must be fantastic to take that job on. I just hope it doesn't all end in tears for him. Good luck and thanks for your efforts.
I find it a strange move. I liked Ben and think he did a good job for us, and am sorry to see him go, Obviously Leeds has a lot more potential than Barnsley and if they had a different owner I can see why he would go but it would take insane amounts of cash and a bullet proof contract to get me to even consider working for Cellino. As Jay says I think he has picked the wrong job to leave us for. As a PS I cant wish him luck at that club
Also its Cellino, this is all about money.. ....He would have not have gone for less would he? I sometimes wonder with these salesman types............ I think they get "sold to" a bit more easy than the rest. I genuinely wish him all the best.
Ben has done a great job with us and has moved us forward as a club. He is warm approachable and has encouraged and developed the relationship between fans and club. He made some mistakes but we were lucky to have him and I'm sad that he's gone. I can understand the move. He's a self confident bloke who will undoubtedly believe that the can succeed where others have failed. Not completely sure I can wish him success at Leeds but I certainly don't wish him any ill. Onwards and upwards.
Love Cellino's statement “Ben’s arrival will now allow me to focus purely on my role as chairman and the running of the club". So what will the CEO's job entail if it's not the running of the club?
A bullet proof vest might be more important. Ben will find out that not all the fish in the sea are friendly!
Bitterly disappointed with this. Leaving for Leeds United makes it seem worse. However, we move on and if I had to name anyone to take over from Ben, it would've been Linton Brown. Good luck, Linton.
I can imagine how it will end - Two year contract, gets sacked after six months and has his contract paid up. 18 months relaxing before his next venture.
Haha didnt you mean Two year contract, gets sacked after six months and spends the next 18 months in legal action trying to get Cellino to pay up
We need to have some realism here. Leeds are a bigger club with the potential for better if they get properly managed. Ben will be aware of the risks that working for Cellino brings. If it goes wrong, everyone knows what a challenge working for Massimo is - but look at what I achieved at Barnsley! Ben will have negotiated a good deal, I'm quite sure, and as an experienced solicitor and former agent will be well up to the task of enforcing it should he leave early. Well done Ben, and good luck.
Many thanks for all you did at BFC, Ben. Good luck in your career. Welcome, Linton, and congratulations on your new role at BFC.
