I wonder if we'll look at the play off win as the pinnacle before we started to unravel... or the new building blocks allowed us to strengthen and step up?

    Only time will tell

Mark Burton would have been a bigger loss. Patrick is throwing big money to keep our current academy status and it's simply not working. We can't hide behind John Stones forever as that's a few years ago now. We are having to buy non league players to bump up developmental numbers as our own age groups look to be failing. Nobody seems close to a regular game for us from recent times like Cowgill or Templeton for example. We've just released George Smith too.

Maybe a freshen up is a good thing.

Luckily we seem to have a good overall structure in place. Now it should be no different from any other organisation: if someone leaves you just replace them with someone who will slot in to what we already have.

Hope that doesn't leave the academy in a pickle.

I'd go along with Redfearn - not managerial material but decent youth coach

You're absolutely spot on. Now get a proper coach in that position and that's the academy sorted.

Good luck to Ronnie and thanks for your contribution to our club. I have felt for a long time that there was something not quite right about our Academy. Considering they have had literally hundreds of kids over the years from the age of U9, it has hardly been very productive. I agree we can't keep using John Stones as an example of success. He is an exception. I saw him for the first time when he was 16 playing in the Youth Cup. All the talk at the time was about RNL, Clark and Rose but within 10 mins me and my mate saw that Stones was an extraordinary talent. My view is he would have made it whatever Academy he was in.
I am involved in a successful local junior team in Barnsley which has has 7 lads scouted to Academies - 2 to Rotherham, 2 to Chesterfield, 2 to Sheffield Utd and ONE to BFC. So I think there a number of issues regarding recruitment and development need addressing, so a change in management is probably overdue.
