Yes every vote must be equal. IMO proportional representation must be brought in so giving every vote equal value.
It is estimated that it will take 2 years to negotiate the terms of exit from the EU. At the end of that period, we have a much better idea of what the effects will be of our exit. We will know what trade deals we have managed to negotiate with other nations s well as with the EU. We will have a better idea of how the multi-national manufacturers who are currently located within the UK will go about dealing with the consequences of exit including possible trade barriers. We will know which of the banks will move their European head offices to Frankfurt, so they are not excluded from trade within the EU. These are just examples and I am sure that there are other unforeseen consequences that will arise in the next 24 months that will cause us all, both REMAINers and LEAVErs to reconsider our positions. Is it your position that we should not have the option to reconsider our votes when we know the full facts.
The problem with that is, the only people who think its a good idea are the losers, then when they are in the majority they lose interest!
Or an academic who has spent years reading and researching the political and economic effects of EU membership vis-à-vis a Millwall supporter who has Eng-er-land tattooed on his neck. Not saying there aren't cogent arguments on either side of the debate but I do suspect the majority of the informed opinion lies on the 'Remain' side and the majority of the 'Leave' opinion lies in the more parochial enclaves of Britain.
Even taking into account everything else Blair did, not changing the voting system in 1997 when he had the political capital to do so is, in my eyes, one of his biggest betrayals.
I think you're suggesting a split between high thinking intelligentsia and the ordinary working man and woman...it's a dangerous assertion to suggest intelligence or the ability to reason has anything to do with birthright or which estate you grew up on.
No every vote should not be equal if you don't understand the reasons and consequences of what you are voting for then how can that vote be worthy. As the young adult in tarn said vote art so wi can kick all Pakis art o cunertry. And he's got the right to vote. Brilliant so glad he has got the right to input in to mine and my families future. Also can't wait for our country to be run by ukip and the bnp. Brilliant again and before anyone comments from the leave side the above is true and if you condone or accept that is valid vote please don't respond as I'm not interested.
As much as I wanted us to Remain, I can't agree to this, a vote is a vote and every one should carry the same weight. However, if you are coming to the end of your years, perhaps, before casting your vote you could reflect and what it means to you and what it might mean for the generations to come.
I don't know about someone aged 99 with Alzheimers but aside from the general morons who voted leave "because of the immigrants" or "to take our country back" it's the elder generation, the baby boomers, who won't have to live for as long as most of us with what they've voted for, who have really pissed me off. Utterly, utterly selfish. Born after the war, enjoyed the benefits of the fastest rise in living standards pretty much ever, free education, affordable housing, jobs aplenty - partly due to the EU. Lived through a time of European peace, lived well beyond their means, saddled future generations with enormous debt, ruined the housing market forever. Voted for austerity, as long as it doesn't touch their pension. Voted for tuition fees, because they'd already got theirs. Voted to leave the EU. They have swanned along, lived the life of riley, then pulled up the ladder to stop their kids and grandkids from climbing up. A complete set of *******s.
Don't beat yourself up about this. If younger people had voted in the same numbers as old people the result could likely have been quite different. I can see it now "you old uns have ****** my future up by voting to leave" - "did you go and vote yourself?" - "err no, but because you did it's ****** my future up".
You can't determine who understands but maybe somethings shouldn't be put out for a vote, the only other time some of the leave voters have voted for any thing was for the x factor final.
That is the most genuinely offensive and bigoted post I have read on here...a lot of people have grafted their b*****ks off , outside this idyllic vision you have in your head...and in many cases risked their lives to provide the best future for people like you... in conditions you will never understand without even asking for a thankyou....you need to look at yourself.
So you're suggesting some people shouldn't be allowed to vote...but you can't determine who understands...so perhaps the people shouldn't be trusted to vote...and Leave voters vote in X Factor..muddled thinking...whatever you do don't take up politics...stick to facebook.
As Alex broker said. People voted to keep Wagner in week after week. And voted for a dog to win Britain's got talent. These same people are voting on the most important decision in this countries history
