Has anyone had problems with songs being removed from the device after synching, even though they are still selected in the library?

It's driving me mad and its doing it at random.

    My advice

Don't whatever you do install iTunes on a Windows machine, it's a complete monster. All you need to do is install some drivers and then you can use Windows Explorer where your iWhatever device will appear as a hard drive.

Is it Apple Music that is causing the problem? If you've subscribed to it then that is the most likely suspect, it likes you to stream it's library rather than your own and will remove duplicates with the same file name.

I don't think I've subscribed to it. I've bought one or two things from iTunes but I still buy CDs and copy them into my iTunes library.

    Re: My advice

Don't worry, simply uninstall iTunes. Then install the device driver for the iWhatever (when I did it it was for an iPhone 4 which I no longer have as it was a company phone). I can't remember where I got the driver from but a quick google should find it. Then you should be back in control of what's on the device and what's on your computer.

Remember that the primary purpose of iTunes is not to make things simple and easy for users, it's to make you spend money.
