Please, please not Boris! Can you imagine a world with Boris and Trump in charge?

    Theresa May.
Dark horse, kept relatively quiet during the referendum.

Of the realistic candidates she is by far the least bad

I think I'd cope with anyone but Boris or Gove even Osborne would be preferable

Osborne was exposed so badly in his Andrew Neil interview he wouldn't even dare put his name forward..it appears he was pretty much withdrawn from the Campaign after that , I think we'll have soon seen the last of Gideon .

Looking at Johnson and Gove the morning after, you'd have struggled to know who'd won. The Brexit vote gives rise to what will surely be lengthy and very onerous negotiations about what the future EU/UK relationship should be. Does either Boris or Gove have the stomach or stamina for that? Gove has already said he doesn't want the job. I don't see Boris having the patience for it. Theresa May is tenacious and meticulous, and might just be the right person to sensibly and determinedly negotiate our new arrangements. That might be an attractive scenario to Boris. I do think Boris would be happy if the EU came back with a better offer to tempt us to stay, but they don't look in the mood for that.

    Meanwhile Labour are imploding.

That's highly unlikely. They'll be looking for a new leader of the opposition by the end of the week.

Hilary Benn sacked and Shadow health secretary Heidi Alexander has just resigned.

Pretty much no chance that it won't be Corbyn or someone further left that's what Labour Party members want as shown in the last leadership election. Nothng has changed since then in terms of the people who will elect a leader. The Blairites just can't accept the moving goalposts.

Theresa May would be a terrible choice. I have no doubt she will be one of the candidates and she'll probably make it through the first couple of rounds but I would be very surprised and disappointed if she won.

Ordinarily I would agree with you Mario, but right now the most urgent requirement is for the country to come back together again and we won't do that with a leader who is despised by more than half the population. If Theresa May is seen by those people as the least bad option then it may be something to build on. But I do agree, she doesn't inspire me.

I'm hoping for Boris Johnson. There is no way anybody else should have to sort out the mess of his making.

I hope it is Boris. The country will then get the leader it deserves.

She may be seen as a safeish pair if hands by the centre of the party and by some of the wider party members but I don't think she will win. My gut feeling is that somebody from the right of the party, or further right than Cameron, will win.

TM went up in my estimates today with the great put down at BJs expense....

.. Never realized she had a sense of humour.

After highlighting her extensive experience of negotiating in Europe (Not looked at that claim yet) she acknowledged that ..

"Boris has some negotiation experience in Europe and with some limited success..... He came back with 3 partly used water cannons ".

    Pwersonally I think

Andrea Leadsom would do a really good job, I certainly thought she was very impressive in the referendum debates
