Two years ago, my sister-in-law booked a wedding at BFC for the 23rd next month. She paid thousands for it, to now have her wedding toast and first dance separated from the football fans by a thin sheet of glass with a kick off at the exact same time.

Apparently the club told her last week it would play the friendly on either the 23rd or 24th, and have gone with the 23rd knowing it's a young couples wedding who follow BFC home and away. Not sure why they wouldn't kick the game off on the 24th knowing they have a wedding reception on the 23rd.

Absolutely gutted for them - terrible form BFC!!!!!

At least they won't have to buy a ticket.

Not trying to be a funny bugger, but it is first and foremost a football club and not a wedding venue, and if you book a wedding on a Saturday during July then surely you accept there's a risk of this happening.

I'm sorry this has happened to her but now that it has try and look on the bright side. As an avid supporter it must be pretty cool to have your wedding at the same place as a live match being played by your team? Maybe the team could go up after the match and join the party? That'd make some good wedding photos! If they weren't supporters I could understand being upset (although it would be a weird venue to choose) but as they are it will all add to the atmosphere.

I read this thinking you were saying the opposite- that you were expecting a football match and the club changed the date.

I think it's a cool thing to do- how much better to have the stadium full of life with the symbol of a kick off at the moment they get married?

What time is she getting married, the wedding breakfast starting, the evening reception starting? (presuming she is having those things). The reason I'm asking is that it took around an hour and a half after getting married for us to have photographs taken so the match could be over before the celebrations even properly begin. 3pm seems early for a first dance and surely that would be hours after the toast (which I presume would be at the wedding breakfast - so those things may not be affected at all). I know all weddings are different but hopefully the match won't affect it too much, I presume this isn't the first wedding BFC have organised and given the choice they didn't think it would cause problems. I hope she has a fantastic day!

I hate the words wedding breakfast. Any idea why they call it that?

Because it's the first meal you eat together as a married couple. Traditionally people would have fasted before the wedding so then they were 'breaking their fast', hence breakfast.

Imagine that, a football club holding a football match within a football stadium.

    Well, I never.

Your sister in law is busy arguing with LD on geekbook Chicago! I think johns told her how it and and she's not happy, it's like our very own episode of Jeremy Kyle!

I can't see the problem as Barnsley fans if I was getting married and I could watch a match as well... Heaven!!

Just gutted that she has paid thousands 2 years in advance, for the club to schedule a game right at the same time when they had the option of playing the day after

is the actual ceremony at Oakwell?

What exactly is the problem with a match being played during the reception?

Surely her first dance isn't at 3pm is it? I thought that was at the reception held in the evening?

Are they Barnsley fans who deliberately chose Oakwell for that reason or simple a couple wishing to get married who saw the legends suite (presumably) area of Oakwell as a nice venue at a decent price? I guess that would make a big difference to their reaction to a game being on

Perhaps Everton weren't available to play the day after?

Can't imagine there being thousands of people cheering their heads off at a pre-season friendly. She'll probably not notice

Again I wouldn't be gutted if be right chuffed! I know you only get married 3 times so it's a big day, I'm sure the club will make it as special as they can and all will have a cracking day, I hope so anyway! the club might have had to play as Everton may have other commitments.
