Question for those who voted leave - was this what you had in mind?

I tried to explain the agenda of the right having been to lots of work related meetings over the last few months when those on the right of the Conservative party have made their aims pretty clear. The Working Time Directive and Tupe regs will be the first to go. People get what they deserve.

 

put bluntly, what business of yours is it to know why I voted to leave?

why do you infer that the 'leavers' were misguided/wrong in the way they voted? Why do you have this slightly superior attitude that the 'remainers' were right and the poor misguided 'leavers' were ill-informed or hadn't thought things through? Why have we to justify our actions?

However I am willing to explain my reasons for my vote. I voted to leave because what is happening in many European countries is a shift to the Right (Austria, Germany and France.) My long term concern was that we would soon be part of a very right wing EU and all that implies and to my mind we are better out of the EU.

 

Well, the TUPE regulations worked really well for my partner. After 20 years' service in charge of a department of 4 people, their work was contracted out. She chose not to transfer to the new contractor for various reasons. Her employer may well close down in a few months, so potentially she has lost out on 20 years of redundancy pay.

 

However I am willing to explain my reasons for my vote. I voted to leave because what is happening in many European countries is a shift to the Right (Austria, Germany and France.) My long term concern was that we would soon be part of a very right wing EU and all that implies and to my mind we are better out of the EU.

I would suggest you can add the UK to that list after that result.

 

Tupe only works if you transfer if you choose not to for whatever reason it can't apply. If she had transfered responsibility for redundancy would have been taken on by new employer

In no particular order.. and kept simplistic as i cant be arsed writing a full essay on the subject explaining why.

Lack of accountabilty within the eu parliament.
Uk public funds sent to the eu and some given back to fund uk based projects.
Uk public funds propping up knackered economies
The inability to use a british company to make goods unless it goes thru eu tenders ..
Lack of democracy within the eus ruling elite
Ttip and other agreements the central eu bodies are attmepting to slide in under ones nose.
high unemployment throughout the mediterranian countries
Lack of border controls increasing the risk of terrorism.
Uncontrolled mass migraition of unskilled eu workers causing a strain on public services and forcing wages down in the sectors they work.
Uncontrolled mass migration of non eu nationals from tue middle east causing a steep rise in the far right.
The authoritarian way the eu central government operates
The last vote was to join an Eu trading block not a centralised political body.
The Eu super state wanting a centralised army police force etc.
Im english at a push british not European. So lack of sovereignty.
The stupid rules in place preventing british government saving british industry.
weve been kicked out before and the sky didnt cave in.

Waste of time really posting that. With the exception of people like Orsen Khat and a few others who you can have a reasoned discussion with even when you are on opposite sides there are a dozen or so on here that are so convinced of their infallibility and superior knowledge and intellect that they bombard the Board with posts. Ironicall most are mainly focussed on insulting anyone who disagrees with them with accusations of repetitive posts, xenophobia, racism, being little Englanders, and the delightful, " you are a disgusting excuse for a human being" aimed at me. that was by someone who completely misunderstood what I had posted when I compared the Brits who stood up to Hitler when we declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland with the attitude being shown by Remainers and young people when the vote went against them. I merely said that if that generation (my parents were about 19 at the time war broke out) had shown the negativity and defeatism shown after the vote, most of us would either be dead, never born or would be speaking German.

Apparently I was one of those who "would have appeased Hitler and joined Mosley's Fascists??? How can you debate with someone like that!

 

This is my rationale. I'm an idealist, what can I say ?
