Hes a massive advocate of (after his roles) of a 6-8-10 year plan.....

But the point of this thread is that international tournament football has that only one player in Englands squad has an 'inernational tournament' medal..........

    Ross Barkley ....... U17's!

I know theres the counter argument with Wales toneet, but when you compare our record at 'non full international' level compared to France, Italy, Germany, Spain etc ...... talking point more than a rant. Just thought it was an interesting, valid and unbelieveable stat.

    Discuss ....

I dont see any reason why playing for the u21's for years is any better for you than not doing. Isnt Pearce also a campaigner for a winter break? Yet wants to take these kids on endless youth tournaments.

I agree cos he's always been extremely succesful at whatever he has done, including the pizza hut adverts and just look at how successful they have been as well as all his manegerial campaigns :)

He's advocating playing our young ones in a group at tournament level. Giving Rashford 4-5-6 games at an u21 tournament rather that 25 mins at an unsuccesful full tournament.

Build a base. I can see his thought process. I can see his logic. Wether its right or wrong?!? Its worked for other countries, but obviously Wales toneet have spoiled his argument.

The idea of a long-term plan sounds good but it's only as good as the plan itself and the plan would depend on the right person to implement it and players which were good enough to cary it out. Sounds good but it's not necessarily right

Stuart Pearce was in charge of the U21s team when they reached the final against Germany in 2009. I'll leave it to you to look up how many players from the German team are in their current squad, compared to how many of his selection have even received a full cap.

The argument is that our young players are hampered by playing so much youth football at club level instead of being given the experience of the real thing so how can we now say they need to be playing u21's, u19's etc for England?

Im all for them playing for the age groups when growing up but as soon as theyre deemed good enough they should be called up.

Personally btw, I've never subscribed to the thought that we dont produce enough quality. We've always had the quality. What we never seem to have is an adequate manager.

As long as the long-term plan doesn't include playing the same faces irrespective of merit and current form. That's where we've been going wrong.

Martin Cranie was one of them.

I get the feeling thats exactly what Pearce is getting at. And why should a manager be given 8-10 years if he's abjectly failing? He should always be accountable.

we might also get somewhere if clubs at the top of the fking Premier league stopped signing up all the young English talent with no intention of playing them in the first team and nothing else to do with them!!
