'' why do they handle it so much better than all these supposed England super stars''

    Long Term plan.
They are bigged up by fans and other players./coaching team. A England player dare say another plays good he gets destroyed.
No pressure at all for most. Bale/ Ramsey/ Williams apart.
    Lack of fear.
And the oppo doesn't treat it the same. No team will defend for 70 minutes against Wales.

The simple fact is they should be able to hand it better when theyre getting paid over a million pound a month and cannot pass a ball 5 yards. Simply not good enough

For me we do not have a long term vision or goal. Germany don't select from a pool that is much wider. But they select a team not individuals. We get blinded by the red top press and select individuals and then try and knock square pegs into round holes. Select your best team and have belief in it regardless of individuals and you will go far. We work backwards towards a plan from individuals and it will never work.

Wales were fantastic tonight. Played as a team and won relatively easily and quite rightly.

There's no fear for Wales because they don't have fans like you, who think we are on a par with teams like Germany, or think our players are world class when they simply aren't. As a nation we have had unrealistic expectations for a long time when it comes to our national team.

The major difference I can see is that Wales have a team spirit and seem to understand and more importantly try and play to their strengths. They play a style of football that suits their players.

England are like an extension of the St George's Park nonsense. Possession for possessions sake, no movement, lumbering slowness, ending up lumping it anyway.

Add to that undoubted commercial pressure to play "the stars" even if those "stars" don't fit into the best 11.

I don't buy the frightened to play argument.

Our media & fans are nothing at the side of the Spanish & Italian. Look at the abuse Bale took in Spain, Zidane was incredible, one of the all time greats & he'd still get abused by some Madrid fans. The Italian media tore their team apart pre tournament, described them as their worst team in 50 years & look at them now.

If you look at the way the Welsh play they do things the English don't seem able to, they constantly fill in for each other around the pitch. Ramsey & Bale take turns to push forward & support Robson-Kanu whilst the other will tuck in & support Ledley & Allen.

When the wing back down one side bombs forward the rest of the defence moves across one & makes a 4.

I don't know whether it's down to coaching or the footballing brains of the players but they all know where to be, compare that to England who look all over the place whenever they were counter attacked

Wales pick players based on building a cohesive team rather than on reputation. In no sane world should Wayne Rooney be starting in central midfield ahead of Danny Drinkwater.

A minority play for arsenal, Liverpool and the likes but tonight's team also play for reading, swansea, Burnley and even an unattached player.

    Clubs represented in tonight's squad:
crystal palace, reading, Swansea, Tottenham, west brom, Liverpool, UNEMPLOYED, arsenal, real madrid, Burnley, Leicester, Inverness, Fulham, wolves, Birmingham, west ham, nottm forest, mk dons.

17 different clubs of different levels. Some of these players will be on a couple of grand a week.

England players come from 4 or 5 clubs, it is a pre requisite that you are a premier league player, all are millionaires. They are pampered players and that is the difference. it's hard to play football with a silver spoon in your mouth

    This.

Rooney did quite well but he was not selected on ability or form but because he was Wayne Rooney.

    That's wrong.

Think it has already been mentioned, but why should the players give a toss? After all they have their 7 bedroom castles and bentlys to retreat to once it all goes Pete Tong. When you're paid that much money what is their left to be motivated for? Greatness? Maybe, but still, for me, money has killed our domestic game. I firmly believe we would have kept people a lot happier playing 11 championship/league one players than that set of overpaid, Mollycoddled set of tarts

Likes of Italy and Germany manage to keep motivated despite being paid lots of money. I don't think that players don't make an effort just because they get paid a bit.

I think more the issue is that young players are paid too much at an early age. It encourages them to sit in the academies of PL clubs instead of being out playing football, getting real experience. Ruben Loftus Cheek at Chelsea on 60k a week, prime example

The whole 'we've only got 70 players to choose from' (the number of English starters in Prem) got blown away as well when Championship Gunter crossed to Championship Vokes for Wales' third

For me we will never do anything until we stop picking the likes of players who when the nation is embarrassed and angry after a shambolic tournament think its acceptable to tweet pictures of a big flashy (tacky)house and how many expensive cars they have got.
That's not a money thing its somebody who really ought to be embarrassed and hurting who just doesn't care enough.

I doubt many of the Wales Players will be skint and waiting for their next payday. But they manage to perform. No lack of motivation among their players. Bale and Ramsey were superb despite their millions

Exactly. The Spain squad who've won everything going in the last decade don't live in two up two downs on Brinckman Street and the German players who won the World Cup and probably will this Euros don't do their big shop at Quality Save. England's problems can't be pinned on that. Alli, Dier, Vardy, Rashford? They're not men who've been earning millions for the last decade like some seem to think.

As for people talking about picking players in form, I think we largely did. Rose, Walker, Smalling, Kane, Vardy, Dier all had great seasons. Hart was the only City player who looked up to it in the Champions League semi. Rooney was exceptional in midfield in the Cup final and Lallana and Sturridge finished the season strongly and performed well in the Europa League.

This argument that we'd suddenly somehow be a semi-final team if we picked average Premier League players doesn't cut the mustard. For whatever reason, good players just don't perform in tournaments for England, and it would be the same if Noble, Albrighton or even our Adam were in the side.

It looked fairly clear to me why England were poor and failing in this tournament. It all began when the 23 man squad was announced. I couldn't have really complained about the keepers and defenders selected. I'd have included an extra centre half, probably Scott Dann or Ryan Shawcross, someone who'd put their head in where it hurts. I know Stonesy has made one or two mistakes over the past year or so, but nowhere near as many as Chris Smalling. As for Gary Cahill, his form at Chelsea had been terrible. I also wanted Aaron Cresswell in there but the two left backs chosen were more than adequate.
Everyone would have picked Joe Hart before the tournament began. I would though have dropped him after the Wales game. The manager made six unnecessary changes, yet didn't see fit to give Fraser Forster a game. This is the issue - certain players picked no matter what.

It's in midfield where the announced squad failed and it's in midfield where England failed in the Euro's. It's as blatant as night follows day that Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson were selected on reputation alone. They can't have been selected on merit or form, neither had kicked a ball much last season. To take those two (and James Milner for no reason whatsoever yet again) ahead of Danny Drinkwater who'd just led his Leicester side to the Premier League title was madness. The idea of a sitting midfielder with two ball-players ahead of him wasn't a bad idea. Eric Dier deserved his chance, and was one of the very few to come out of France with his reputation intact. But it should have been Dele Alli and Drinkwater ahead of him. Or Ross Barkley, and if selected based on form/merit, Mark Noble who had a stellar season at West Ham. Again. But no. The manager put a striker there. I admire what Wayne Rooney has achieved in the game. I think he's slightly overrated and never been the world class talent some suggest, but he's broke two England records and plenty at United based on longevity more than owt so fair play. But there's always an end to every road. And he shouldn't have been in the squad if he wasn't playing up front. The idea that he's somehow now a midfielder because he's towing to score goals anymore, proper, proper myth. And typically English. It happened with David Beckham and Steven Gerrard too. Unable to admit that time was up, England kept on turning to them and ignored others more deserving.

Then you look at the wingers selected. What wingers? Who were wingers in the squad? Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling I suppose were the nearest thing. The former made his name centrally at Soton and always cuts inside, his technical skills are overshadowed by his lack of end-product. The latter has had a terrible year or so for his club and shouldn't have been in the squad. The end. And so we see the likes of Daniel Sturridge out there. The most left-footed striker in the country, playing right wing. No place for Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Lennon, Michail Antonio, Nathan Redmond, Andros Townsend... and so on and so on. Plethora of wingers to choose from, just in the Premier League. Below that, you've the likes of Tom Ince and in all serious, our own Adam Hammill. Don't you tell me he couldn't have done a better job than Sturridge or Sterling against SLOVAKIA and ICELAND. Again, comes back to picking the same faces just because.

Couldn't argue with the strikers selected, just a shame we don't see fit to play two together.

Some very talented players were in that squad, even with the lack of width you could have seen much better from them. Why not have Nathaniel Clyne or Kyle Walker on the right wing? You shouldn't have had to, obviously, but because Roy took no wingers, it would have been an idea. The Iceland game t'other night was crying out for more width. It also needed an injection of creativity, someone to run with the ball perhaps. But the manager brought off Dier and stuck Wilshere on instead. Leaving Barkley on the bench, a player who can make things happen. Also, we saw Cahill continually trying (and failing) to bring the ball out from deep. Whilst Stonesy sat on his arse too.

All in all, I don't believe for one minute we're one of the heavyweights of international football and our record over time suggests as much. My expectations aren't great. No pressure from me, sat in front of a TV. I don't ever refer to how much player X is earning in comparison to player Y. I don't think that's relevant. We're a last 16/quarter finals at best sort of nation capable of an early exit or a run to the semis. I'm 34 next month. Everything I've seen of England in that time backs that up.

I blame the management for this latest debacle of a tournament. Not a debacle because of when we were knocked out, but how we were and who by. We didn't play any heavyweight nations and were very fortunate to win a game. We lost as soon as we met a proper team. No offence to Wales, but they were ***** against us, nothing like how they played last night. Fair play to them, with their half English squad. But Iceland were the first proper team we faced. With a plan, tactics, shape and idea. We got the key thing - an early goal. Then construed to shoot ourselves in the foot all night.

Yep, I blame Roy Hodgson and his coaching staff.

His performance in Brazil was even worse.

Sir Alex Ferguson, Sam Allardyce or Neil Warnock, please. Someone who doesn't piss about.

But in all honesty (and despite this long ramble) I don't care anywhere near as much as I might like to. Sadly. And I will be hoping for a German or Italian victory once again. Because both are exactly what I'd like England to be. Teams.

Both Shearer and Ferdinand ripped the players to bits on Monday night. They also had a go at Hodgson and co.

They laid blame and it was very fair.

Whitey hitting the nail on the head for a change.

Non of this ******** we need a winter break. Sports psychologists needed for the supposed mental block when pulling on an England shirt. No need to uproot academies and start again.

Just bad management from start to finish. With all problems..and I mean ALL problems stemming from picking an appalling squad.

Following that the manager made terrible team selections, tactical decisions and played the wrong players in the wrong positions.

Choose your playing style and then pick the players who can deliver it the best.

The way England go about things if they opted to play a direct, long ball game they would still pick Daniel Sturridge over Andy Carroll.
