No I based it on the following information; ''Vastly experienced in the top 2 tiers with 23 Premier League appearances under his belt and nearly 300 Championship games. 64 caps for Iceland and captained them in a very impressive Euro campaign. Has a great fitness record appearing 40 plus times in 6 out of the last 8 seasons.'' Why are you taking a snippet of what I said and not putting it alongside my original point? Nyatanga has just had a dreadful season so why would I or anyone else want him in front of Mawson or Roberts? I have also never said he should be in front of anyone in our squad. I just think someone of his calibre and experience would be a very useful addition. So yes your comment was ridiculous. It seems more motivated at trying to make me look an idiot than anything else.
I referred to the Poborsky effect. You said 'not really'. I then gave a response to your next post, which you called 'ridiculous'. I wasn't trying to do anything except debate your points, pal. But you don't seem interested in that. A debate or discussion. You have your opinion and to challenge it on here seems pointless. I don't rate Gunnarsson. Good day to you.
I know you dont rate Gunnarsson. But you're trying to suggest that by my logic I must think Nyatanga should be ahead of Mawson and Roberts. You know that I dont rate Nyatanga. So I dont know why you would say that unless you were trying to make a fool out of me. You haven't really challenged my opinion because you have never said why Gunnarsson wouldnt be good enough or why he wouldn't suit our style of play. It isn't necessarily Gunnarsson we need. But do you not think having 3 25-28 year old established players in the squad could help benefit our younger players?
I used Nyatanga as I did as I felt it was relevant. He's the most experienced or 'established' Championship player in the squad. Also a fully fledged international. Similar age. Yet by general consensus he won't be a regular starter for us. I felt it was a decent point, personally, in reference to Gunnarsson. You thought it ridiculous. It's all by the by really. But no, I wasn't trying to make you look a fool or an idiot. Just challenged your opinion. Or at least, attempted to. In relation to your question now though, I dunno. It's up to Hecky I suppose. But I think Davies, White, Roberts, Mawson, Moncur, Hammill, Watkins, Hourihane and Winnall are definite starters come August, fitness permitting. And if we sign Bradshaw I would expect him to start too. Which leaves just right back to fill, unless Bree or Yiadom are set to be the regular there. We'll see. But I don't see where we're fitting these established laikers in if we sign them. Hence, I'd expect maybe a handful more additions but more on the 'young' and 'hungry' level ala Moncur, Bradshaw et al. The experience this group garnered from last seasons exploits will count for a lot. I was fortunate enough to see a bit of Championship football last season and it's not the giant leap some would have you believe. More ruthless at both ends, but more space and freedom to express yourselves. We were seen as a big scalp in L1, hence teams sitting in at Oakwell and looking to nick results. The vast majority this season will come to Oakwell gunning for what they'll see as an easier away day than most. I'm intrigued to see how we (as players, coaches, fans, owners etc) cope with a poor run of defeats or the odd thrashing. Again though, I think the last 12 months will have given the squad lots of experiences to fall back on, hopefully. Probably dunt answer your question like but I love a ramble.
He isn't established anymore though. He is poor. So he doesn't compare to someone who has just played an excellent international tournament and has nearly 300 Championship games under his belt with barely blip over the last 8 years. We all know international and Championship games dont always mean everything. We saw it with Keith Treacy. He has experience much greater than Conor, Scowen or Marley. But I nor would anyone else suggest he is now a better player than any of those. In terms of the gap I think the side that beat Millwall at Wembley could beat at least half the sides in the Championship in a one off game. However we dont have that side anymore. It's also not a one off game. It's 46 games against very good players. We're going to need a strong squad to be competitive. For as long as I can remember we have recruited poorly in the summer and had to scramble around November onwards for loan players to save us. Off the top of my head; Leon Knight, Kyle Reid, Ronnie Wallwork, Akos Buzsaky, Jonathan Greening, Aidy White, Marcus Tudgay, Jack Hunt, Frimpong, Emile Sinclair, Brek Shea ect. Literally everyone season since we got promoted 10 years ago we have made the same kind of panic signings to correct summer mistakes. I'm not saying Aron Gunnarsson is the answer. But I do think this season it would be better to get the right type of established players in at the start of the season rather than scramble for them later on (not many just 1-2). We're all riding on a wave at the minute and we all think our players are brilliant. They certainly were brilliant at league One level. They could be brilliant in the Championship. But we cant be naive. IMO we should be proactive. For all I know Hecky could be thinking the same. But I wouldnt be comfortable going into a Championship season with the squad we have now plus Bradshaw, then a few other names mentioned like Kent, Ledson ect.
I wasn't comparing him with Gunnarsson. I was suggesting that an experienced/established laiker already at the club is behind younger, inexperienced, unproven laikers. If you sign a Gunnarsson or whoever, who's making way? And to recruit the sort of players you're describing, it wouldn't be cheap and there'd be little if any resale value. It goes completely against what the club has become over the last 18 months. And is the sort of recruitment that didn't stop us towing every year last time we were at the level. But you might be right, maybe Hecky is attempting to sign such players as we speak? I doubt it, but I'm often wrong.
Are you going to contribute anything worth reading on this thread or just keep spouting rubbish? I'm talking football. If you dont agree with what I'm saying from a footballing point then give a counter argument. Firing insults at me is pathetic.
It's more fun pointing out your little temper trantrums and long winded "You're wrong, I'm right" paragraphs.
Would you not prefer to talking about football on a football forum rather than admittedly attempting to get a reaction out of me?
No point discussing football with you, you'll just cry again when somebody disagrees with you, so I'll leave my opinion aside until I have an adult to debate/discuss football with.
I've never cried once over the BBS. Others seem to be rattled by some of my opinions, you being one of them. But no one elses opinion upsets me.
I'm not rattled by your opinion, why would I be? I'm just highly amused by the way you refuse to accept anybody else's opinion.
