Or EFL Trophy as it's now to be called. "the invited u21 teams taking part must include at least five players under the age of 21" Hahaha. I thought this revamp was a joke before now, but christ almighty. I've been home from work half an hour and the first bits of news I've come across are these..... *the Iraq war was wrong.. not exactly a shock to me, I was part of a large demo against it in Leeds.. I got proper pissed that day to be fair, so it wasn't all bad.. but aye, whether you knew it was coming or not, it's **** news eh? *Lionel Messi has been done for tax evasion or summat.. yet the fine he's received is less than the tax he dodged, and, his prison sentence is under two years long so he probably doesn't have to go to prison.. hahaha, what? *Oscar Pistorius was up in court again, because it was now an upgraded charge of murder he was facing, because that carries a stronger penalty (15 years minimum apparently) and the 5 years for culpable homicide wasn't deemed 'enough'. He was today given 6 years. The mind ******* boggles. So basically, you are free to invade a sovereign nation, a nation who has never so much as called you a nasty name, invade it, pillage it, reconstruct it, leave it, watch it become a centrepiece for the sort of idealogy you pretended to be invading it for. Then, you're free to avoid paying tax on your £5m earnings, well, you're not like, but once you're nicked for it you'll be fined much less than that and the prison sentence given to you is about as effective as the one you get when playing Monopoly. And if that's not enough, you can shoot your partner four times, killing them and end up doing about three years jail. What a wonderful world....
Is that the whole matchday squad incl. subs or 5 players under the age of 21 on the pitch at all times? Either way it is a joke! Edit: just googled it and came across this: Football League clubs will have to field at least five ‘first team’ players in their EFL Trophy starting line-ups, while only six of the players in the invited clubs’ starting 11 must be under the age of 21. I think it's even worse having "invited" PL u21 teams in than all 20 clubs. Who invites them? Who decides which PL teams are worthy and which aren't?! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I mean if you did all three of those things, you'd probably have a country named after you and have followers who address you as "King". Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Maybe I'm wrong on this but how do Premiership teams qualify to enter this tournament as I thought that when they formed the Premier League, they resigned their membership share in the Football League. Or maybe my memory is just not what it used to be. Either way, all fans ought to boycott this competition from day one, imho that is.
The Prem gave the FL clubs £1m in prize money to bribe their way in basically. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
These PL U21 teams are not going to be any attraction anyway. None of them will risk their "stars" up against 3rd and 4th Division cloggers. They might get hurt So, obviously, it's going to be PL reserve teams, and who wants to pay to see them? It's not really a competition that will stand any mucking about with but, if they must do something, I'd rather see the top non league teams invited into it, instead of playing in their own FA Trophy, or as well as playing in that.
They're not even all Premier League teams being entered. It's 'Category One' academies, which is why Newcastle are on the list of invited teams. So glad we're not involved in it. Hopefully the one season trial proves to be a failure.
Boycott the game, did you actually go to any of the JPT games last season. That York game, bet you where worried about getting a ticket wasn't you. People are moaning because they tried to improve the comp. Read today that Everton want to play their games at Goodison park. Amazing chance for the Everton players to play it in that ground in a competitive game. Also be interesting to see the figures they get. I think a few FL teams fans are worried that their team will get done by a bunch of ''kids'' and look stupid.
All the teams had to say they if they wanted to be involved. Can't see looking at the teams that have got it why they would have choose Derby. Newcastle are one of the u21 teams. Having seen how they set up at u21 level then their are a different. They are comparable to the Manchester clubs.
It devalues the competition, not improves it. The JPT was a proper cup, the only football league cup not spoiled by the money of the premiership and its parachute payments. It allowed clubs that wouldn't otherwise get the chance the opportunity to win a cup at Wembley. Now it will be a runout for Premier League reserve sides in empty Premier League grounds. Not even the proper youth teams - they only have to play 5 youth players. There are all kinds of improvements that should be made to youth football in this country - this isn't one of them.
If you mention a u21 player on here poeple will say hes no good because of the players age so the League one and two clubs shouldn't have a problem then,
Derby's under 21's won their division, pipping Arsenal to the title. Newcastle finished 10th. But I did get my wires crossed. They weren't invited in the end. But Man Utd have rejected their invitation, Liverpool and Everton yet to accept.
