Lucky for me it was before she did the first album and 4 track demos otherwise I'd have been star struck she was just mates with a mates band. Though at the same time I didn't appreciate it. Love her vocals on this. I http://youtu.be/OpFSppgBpUc I love all the stages of her career the visceral otherworldly angst of her early stuff. The poppier Stories from the City Stuff and the more recent folky poetry stuff though the new album has yet to grow on me.
Wow...cos of this thread I listened to PJ's, Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea, album for the first time in years...Fookin wow...back catalogue's going to get some hammer in the next few days. An aside, to Monkey Red and Marc...How did Radiohead come across? Any return to former glories?
i thought they were astonishing, but they're my favourite band on the planet today, so i'm probably a tad bias. i was on the barrier as well, so i had a perfect view
I used to love Radiohead. From Pablo Honey until about 6 years ago but just can't feel them these days.
Funnily enough, James, I've seen him play with a broken ankle. He's also played with one arm (other was broken) on a tour of the UK. And did a gig in Melbourne with a broken foot + torn ligaments and tendons. And obviously, escaped from a crashed plane, his body on fire on the runway as he saw the plane explode killing those left on board. Required 16 surgeries, blood transfusions and numerous skin grafts after 60% of his body suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns. But none of that stops him being the best drummer on the planet. Named as such, the last two years at least. Of course it's subjective and each to their own. But I wasn't just saying "the best" because he's in blink and I'm biased or whatever. It's pretty standard to suggest he is. I'd never declare Mark Hoppus the best bassist, nor do I reckon he or Tom DeLonge (or Matt Skiba now) are amazing vocalists. But Travis is the ****, mate. https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/new...test_rock_drummer_in_the_world_right_now.html
I will have to take that list with a huge pinch of salt. I'm not sure it's standard to say he's the best. Terrorizor magazine once did a list of best drummers and dint even mention him. You don't need to be the best drummer to play in a pop punk band.
To be fair he's a decent drummer. Not sure I'd see him in the top echelon and the drumming he gets to do isnt perhaps as stretching as it might be but it'd be wrong to describe him as anything other than an excellent drummer.
I love Explosions in the Sky. Saw them at the Royal Albert Hall earlier this year, incredible. Into any other similar bands?
Linkin Park, Puff Daddy, Lenny Kravitz, N.E.R.D, Slash, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Britney Spears, POD, Transplants, Eminem, Xzibit, Papa Roach, Willie Nelson, Damian Marley, +44, DJAM, The Game, Jane's Addiction, Antemasque, Flo Rida, Cypress Hill, Rob Zombie, Juelz Santana, Lil Wayne, Slipknot, Chester French, LL Cool J, Paul Wall, Avril Lavigne, Pharell Williams, Pink, T.I., Idiot Pilot, Warren G, Mary J Blige, Mike Posner, Drake, Trey Songz, Katie Taylor, Tinie Tempah, Robin Thicke, Pitbull, Skylar Grey, Robert Smith... Played drums for all of the above and many others. Bit more than a pop punk drummer, mate.
There's not much drum demand though in a lot those acts those. I'm not knocking the lad btw - he's an accomplished drummer, but there are many more who are more accomplished. Post a video that best showcases his talent - a song not a drum solo. I think this bloke is up there with the best http://youtu.be/Q8D1u5RjIP4
You said you don't need to be the best drummer to play in a pop/punk band. I'm not disagreeing. But he's not just a drummer for blink-182. He works with artists from across all musical genres. Hence my response. Prepare for a few videos then, but here's a live one of him playing with one arm... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRhpYBqN7qA
Nahh, I'm not posting more videos mate. One of the best drummers. We'll settle on that rather than ruining the forum banging on about it. I'll do you a deal Jimbo, you come watch blink next summer with me and I'll come watch your favourite band. We can argue about Ryan Williams and talk about that time you fell art with Hammill n all.
I couldn't stand through an entire blink 182 set. Not sure how discussing blink 182 on a blink 182 thread is ruining the forum? Just to clarify, I'm not saying he's not a decent drummer, but he's nowhere near the best on the planet. In my opinion of course.
You win then pal, in straight sets.
