Sorry if it's been asked before but does anyone know of a link to a detailed map of the new route? I've been hunting around the net but all I've found are blurry offerings from the BBC.
I've looked everywhere and can't find any detailed route maps. All I now is that what was an utterly pointless waste of money before has just become an even bigger waste of money for everyone in south Yorkshire except hose living in the centre of Sheffield. Typical Tories, big city wins the fight
Given that it will stop in Meadowhall not Sheffield it doesn't even benefit those in the centre of Sheffield much.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/hs2-information-event-28-july-2016-hemsworth I think their might have been a new route proposed but not sure. Something my Uncle mentioned. Not sure If I've understood but something about it maybe going by or close to Visit cottage
From the BBC report at the foot page is a link to the hs2 companies site which contains detailed maps
No longer stopping at Meadowhall, and the local stopping point is between Doncaster and Barnsley, with the aim of benefiting those 2 towns. There will be a Sheffield City Centre connection to the line. I'm not saying I agree with the proposals, but if a town is likely to benefit, it's now more likely to be Barnsley and Doncaster, rather than Sheffield.
There was loads of coverage re the proposed new route on Radio Sheffield on Toby Foster's show on Wednesday. Meadowhall not now part of the plan. A housing estate in the Dearne Valley to be "compulsorily purchased". http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-england-south-yorkshire-36688823
Any proposed station would be north of thurnscoe towards Clayton. I would imagine it's would be highly unlikely as the area doesn't have the infrastructure to support it
It isn't stopping at meadowhall anymore, it's now going past south Yorkshire completely with a train using existing lines (slower) stopping in the centre of sheffield
the original route passed about half a mile from my house near m1 junction 36. Not happen in my lifetime (I'm 57) if at all
They said the new station is going to be at thurnscoe but let's be right, that is never ever going to happen
I think they're doing it the wrong way round. HS2 should end in Sheffield, rather than Leeds. The challenge then becomes linking up Manchester/Leeds/Sheffield and the surrounding areas. This spur line is the worst of all worlds.
There's a Barnsley fan who I saw tweet earlier this week saying he moved into a brand new house 6 days ago before getting a letter telling him it was at risk of getting knocked down for HS2.
