Ray McHale. Did the simple things & dirty work whilst the talented Glavin and Banks strutted their stuff.
I'd go with Nicky Eaden -thought he got a lot of unwarranted abuse but was steady and hardly put a foot wrong - always remember that goal against Sheffield United Mchale as well did a lot of the donkey work for the flair players - said this to someone recently who then proceeded to tell I was talking rubbish because Glavin did it all I liked Mark Smith as well - great partnership with Futcher and Tiler
A lot of the players we had under Thordarsson were underrated. If we've had a bigger squad than thirteen players we would have gone up that season. There's different ways to players though. Some players were made out to be crap when they were half decent like Kevin Betsy, where others were not fully appreciated in terms of how good they actually were, like Nicky Eaden who was the best full back ever to play for BFC.
eric tinkler for me, he was like bobby moore, you didn't realise just how good he was or what he did until you just watched him
Grant McCann. He was a very solid player, I always though it was odd we let him go when he was certainly a capable Championship midfielder.
Dean Gorre. A true class act who you could tell had been schooled at some of the most stylish clubs in Europe. It's a shame we never saw him get a run in the team with a manager who had faith enough to give him freedom of expression, apart from a brief spell under Thodarsson where he ripped up the division until getting an injury that pretty much ended his career. I've had the pleasure of meeting him too and he's a top bloke.
Eaden gets my vote. He received stick from the stands throughout his time here. He could play out of his skin (and often did) and yet one stray pass or whatever and you'd hear it...... "for **** sake Eaden" One of the finest players to wear the shirt.
In my opinion it's Rory Fallon. Under Gudjon, when we had a tiny squad during administration, we were riding high in the league, against all odds. Despite Rory playing as lone striker. We sold him for peanuts, to Swindon, where he went on to have a successful spell. Dean Gorré though was something special.
Dunno if he's been mentioned but I'd say Matt Hill. Yes his career has gone downhill since leaving but I thought he did a really good job for us. Loved to bomb up the pitch and was part of the defence that Robins made rock solid at Oakwell. Clearly loved the club.
Loved big Eric! Never thought I'd hear him compared to Bobby Moore though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Disagree with you about Sheron.. He had a good brain I agree but his finishing was awful for a striker given what we paid for him at the time. In retrospect a big waste of money and one of the causes of the decline of J Dennis. A bad signing
Jacob Burns was a lazy, immobile midfielder who was attempting to use BFC to engineer a call up for the Aussie international squad as I remember. Had he actually been any good he might have been called up.....
Georgi Hristov... Had a fantastic eye for goal, scored lots, even in the Premier League given his game time and non-selection/injury, and if he had been on earlier against Ipswich at Wembley.......
