Need some books for next holiday. Already read Sam Allardyce, Barry Fry, Ray Parlour, Keith Gillespie on last holiday. Fairly recent books too if you can recommend. Ta.
I liked Zlatan's tbh. If you are old enough to remember Tony Cascarino, then that's a brilliant read. My favourite though by a long way has to be Simon Jordan's (ex Crystal Palace chairman) a couple of snippets about Barnsley in there too but honestly, what a read that is.
George Best - 'Blessed'. The Wreckless Eric one is brilliant too. But he wasn't a sportsman, as such...
Just back off holiday and although not a sporting autobiography may i recommend Absolute Pandemonium by Brian Blessed.
Georgie Charlton My Unbelievable Life of a Footballer. It's a bit of a laugh, It's a fictional footballer from the 70's.
If you can get it, "Allison Calling". It tells the story of the origins of Woolwich Arsenal, told by a journalist who took over the management of Arsenal from Herbert Chapman in the 1930s, who had died due to a fatal heart attack, in the second year of his tenure at AFC. Herbert Chapman of course, was famous for winning the First Division Championship with Huddersfield in the 20s.
The best insight into professional sport I have ever come across was On and Off the Field by Ed Smith. It's fairly old now, but it really is a fascinating read if you enjoy cricket.
Behind the white ball, Jimmy White is fantastic. Quite old now though and I think he may have another out more upto date but still worth reading.
Gary Wiltshire - Winning it back! One quote from the book ...."Dad, we've not had a good start to this evenings dog races, we are £103 down (on the day he had lost millions & everything he had!
