Paul Heckingbottom on Tuesday night bemoaned the amount of opportunity's missed and I was thinking things would improve, No. PH must be going home tonight annoy and most likely concerned. Chances been missed from single digit yards out. One header, 6 yards out plenty of time to see it early in the second half. Awful. As one of those that will be making the trip down to Portman road in less than 2 weeks time now it wasn't great to see.
We won't be playing prem class teams like Everton every week though . Things to improve on , but we were beat by a good prem team and we missed / unlucky with our chances
we were playing EVERTON today matey I am sure PH will be more than happy with the days work. A very good Prem team has shown him our weak areas that need working on or tranfers/loans required. I would have been amazed if we had won to be honest.
Obviously I haven't a clue who played well for you lot today, but is it safe to say its all Sam Winnall's fault? If Wigan carry on with the same tactic of playing out from the back, that's one less relegation place for you to be bother about. Friendlies are just that, but Dale battered them today and I still don't think we will be much more than mid-table. I only go to watch Donal McDermott play now.
Doesn't really matter Connor if they miss chance after chance from single didgit yards then it doesn't matter who you are against. They did it at Stalybridge and by the looks it doesn't seem to be improving. Defensively we were all over at times. Everton break and they have more men in and round the box then Barnsley. This was in the first quarter of the match.
We've beat teams at a worse level than us convincingly and now lost convincingly to a team much better than us. That's pre season in a nutshell. Last season we missed too many chances but got away with it because we created plenty. Now in an higher league we are going to create less chances, but be expected to put away an higher percentage of them.
Do you think he'll keep getting chances? It's not going to happen. If Barnsley get two chances down at Portman Road or Oakwell against Derby then that will be it. Barnsley HAVE to put the ball in the net or it's going to be a awful. It's not just me that's been mentioning it all pre season. The club are via Heckingbottom. or and let's see what happens,
No striker we can possibly afford will score with every chance they get. World class forwards probably average 1 in 2/3. Winnall's conversion rate in League 1 was exceptional. Will he be able to do it further up i dont know. What I do know is that we will get the chance to find out. from a very brief conversation with Hecky I know first hand how highly he rates Winnall.
It really wasn't great conversion rate. He was only just avg more shots on target on target than missing last season.
Did Bradshaw score? I seem to remember someone saying he was a much better striker than Winnall at some point last season.
Shots don't mean chances. Adam Hammill shoots all the time from 25 yards out so come in most go into orbit they are not chances. Of actual goalscorering opportunities provided by Winnall I would guesstimate his conversion rate to be 1 in every 2.5 which is outstanding. In the Championship if he converts at the same rate I would expect him to get 10 -15 goals which would be tremendous.
Massive over reaction as usual. Pre season friendly against good Prem side packed with internationals.
