Has anyone else's village been taken over by grown men chasing pokemon about?

Just drove past darfield museum and there is a group of middle aged blokes on their phones trying to catch em!

Bet whoever invented that app is absolutely rolling in it!

Went to locke park with the dog the other night and there was hundreds of people running about trying to get them.

Added around £14 billion to Nintendo's market value, though they've lost around £6 billion of that today.

and you are shocked by this .... really... I mean REALLY !!!

walkaround any town/city center and you will see all ages walking around like Egyptian glyphs head down one arm up thumb twitching, its pathetic. They are not all doing this Pokémon thing... they are doing gambling games , they are texting, they are being remote controlled shopping drones.... THEY ARE BEING FECKIN PATHETIC. The cell phone, mobile phone, tablet is a total curse on this modern world... I have a mobile phone... it lives its life in the glove box of my car as does my Wife's they are there for breakdown and emergency... for that I use a mobile phone, ... emergency personel like first responders, doctors, police, etc to them they are a useful tool ... Mobile phones get them straight to the depths of room 101 for me no worries.

What if someone needs to get hold of you and you're not at home?

I never understand why people get angry about people on phones, before that they'd have probably read the newspaper on the bus or walked along in silence whilst going somewhere. As long as they are not hurting anyone, why does it matter that they now look at the news on their phone or text a friend instead? People have huge rose-coloured glasses about the past as they knew it, it's not as if the person who was walking somewhere on their own would be contributing anything worthwhile to the world because they had their hands in their pockets and their eyes on the floor rather than on a phone.

I'm sort of similar to you with the phone situation except that I do have it switched on and on me the majority of the time. It can only call and text (and take rubbish photos that I can't send to anyone) and I probably only use it once or twice a week but I don't mind that other people get more use out of their phones. Why would I care that a stranger I'm not going to have any interaction with is on a phone instead of being preoccupied with something else? (newspaper, own thoughts, kicking a stone etc.)

Don't play it myself but surely anything that gets people out and about exercising is a good thing.

It's a good point pal, my mates son wrote on Facebook that he walked 11km today alone. Suppose it is a good way to get exercise.

I've walked well over a marathon in a week playing this game. Previously my only exercise was resistance training in the gym with very little cardio.

I feel better for it already.

It's an app displaying a person on a map of your area. As you walk around the person will move on the map and random Pokemon characters will spawn and you have to throw a ball at them to catch them. Some landmarks in your area (churches are quite popular) will be 'Pokestops' where you can collect more balls and other items to help catch Pokemon. There will also be 'gyms' dotted around where you can battle with other players. As you get more Pokemon you can evolve them into better characters. You also have an incubator where you can hatch eggs; each egg has a distance e.g. 5km, 10km etc. and they hatch when you have travelled that distance. You must travel under 20mph so you can't just get in a car or on a train and complete the journeys that way.

I may not have a smartphone but my husband does, I'm able to get him to do all sorts of chores now like going to the shop or the postbox and he'll do it eagerly - I love it ;)

Thanks for that, I think ;).

Er, I can see that I am missing out.

    Or perhaps not.
