Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle have rejected the chance to play Under-21 teams in the EFL Trophy, BBC Sports News. Will there be others?

They will now offer places to Championship clubs, to demean the competition even further. FA heads should roll for this farce.

Norwich City, Brighton, Derby, Wolves, Blackburn and Reading have all accepted a place.

I hope you're not being serious? What an absolute load of rubbish!

Well done to the top Premiership teams that have declined, I'm not sure what benefit they get from not taking part. It begs the question though, who asked for it if teams are not wanting to join in anyway? Have they changed their mind or were they not even approached with the idea in the first place?

    Have they asked us?
We could have offered to send our under 11s to defend the trophy.

Deadly serious. Scudamore said they will offer places to Championship Clubs if PL don't take their spots.

It was undoubtedly PLs idea. Until they very quickly realised it would mean more matches and would interfere with their alternative strategy of global tournaments and winter break. They threw a million quid at it. Pennies to them. The authorities should be lined up and egged for this.

Absolutely pathetic. Teams like Coventry have to be happy about facing the youth team of the likes of Blackburn? Load of *****

I've seen loads of own goals in many years watching football. To the best of my knowledge all of them have been unintentional. This one however has been scored on purpose. Total utter madness.
