Labour Party in Barnsley

Research quoted by Owen Jones in tomorrow's Guardian estimates that the number of actual Labour Party members in Barnsley is somewhere between 480 and 515. This sets me wondering (and I don't remotely know the answer) about the following teaser:

If Dan Jarvis stood as an independent Labour candidate (having been de-selected) against a Corbyn/McDonnell backed official Labour Party candidate, what would the outcome be?

Would UKIP take advantage of the chaos and trump them both?

These scenarios are worryingly possible, it seems to me.

    That seems ridiculously low?

He'd lose his seat and then Labour candidate would win

It surprised me, Jedstar. But that's what the Guardian is publishing tomorrow. The Barnsley Central constituency has 70,000 electors, of whom 36,500 voted in 2015, with c.20,00 for Major Dan, 7,000 for UKIP and 5,000 for the Tories.

And your reasoning (bearing in mind the low number of Labour Party members, if the figure quoted is to be believed)?

I'm a member but I'm leaving because of the £25 fee to vote in the leadership election which is a disgrace for a party which is supposed to represent the poor.

People will vote Labour. He's not been an MP long enough or done enough to believe he'd get in outside of the Labour ticket

That assistant he's with, wonder what credentials she had for the job?

Not his wife's choice I bet.

As the sitting member Dan would walk it. Barnsley would not vote any candidate foisted on them.

If you are REALLY a member then assuming were a member before Jan then you can still vote.

The party is supposed to represent workers

Don't disagree on £25 fee though

I wonder what shade she is on the Dulux colour chart.

Got tickets for Prime Ministers questions, was the last one before the referendum so it was interesting, then went for a pint with Michael Dugher afterwards, was a good day I'd recommend it to anyone.
