Few decent saves but bad mistake for the first goal

Well I think it was partly Mawson and partly Townsend's fault but he did produce plenty of good saves

He's a very good shot stopper but just makes some crazy decisions at times. Think he needs to be given a chance where applicable and just hope he irons out those errors because he is a good keeper in the making. I think playing him v Northampton would be a good idea

Mawson? Think you mean Roberts. Complete breakdown of communication between him and Townsend who in my opinion needed to be roaring at Roberts to either get rid or that he was coming to clean the lot out. He looked nervous to me.

Yeah apologies just seen the goal on SSN. Roberts shouldn't have let the attacker get past him but Townsend was in no man's land

He does not inspire me with any confidence whatsoever. Every pro goalkeeper can stop shots otherwise they wouldn't be pros. It's the rest of their role which sorts the men from the boys.

communication wise, i heard his voice above anyones
he shouts - but i suspect the defence don't have confidence as they didn't seem to listen!!

but the saves he made were good enough for a second choice keeper, who could play very little, unless serious injury

my main concern is that we can't replace him with a decent loan keeper.

i would personally be looking for an experienced 33yr+ oldish head who can do a few games should davies pick up a knock!!
a third choice who can help coach!!

Not seen him recently as I don't do friendlies but one of the poorest keepers I have seen play for us. Still he's young and can develop and would be ok back up with fingers crossed that Davies remains fit.

As an ex keeper myself can you really say he is one of the poorest keeper you have ever seen ?
Believe me I have seen and played against worse even at this level.
He is still young and I truly think he will become exceptional with the right coaching and a bit of confidence .

You've played at championship level? Looking at your post history, I'm guessing David Preece who would have experience at this level and would have coached Townsend at Lincoln, thus the vested interest?

No where did I say I had played at a championship level ..... However it doesn't mean I do not know and watch people who have , there is no vested interest in Townsend my opinions are my own just like yours however it just seems the keepers are constantly in the wrong when a goal is scored , the majority of supporters seem forget the ball has to get from on side of the pitch to the other , beating out field players however when it beats the goalie it's his fault ...... I think not !

Your last post said ' I have seen and played against worse even at this level. ' you probably didn't mean that but it sounded like you were saying you had played against keepers at this (championship) level

I have played against championship players however only Pre-friendly matches , I am not trying to make myself out to be a big time player but I know how it feels when supporter/ outfield players need to blame someone for a goal in the back of your net

He's been watching Jack Walton who is a better goalkeeper than Nick Townsend

I understand that your an ex-goalkeeper and all but Townsend isn't the required quality to be back up to Adam Davies and you can see how it effects the confidence of the defenders in pressure situations

Really ... Well I am not sure he is talking about the jack Walton who I have been watching who is not a better keeper than Townsend ...obviously there is a bias opinion here by both....

Totally disagree with your comment that Townsend isn't a quality back up to Adams however you feel at this moment in time Walton is !!!!!
As far as confidence and defenders it works both ways I saw defenders making mistakes which lea to goals .

I've watched Townsend & my opinion is Walton is a better keeper, Townsend is slow off his line and doesn't command his area. Only at club because of John Vaughan.

Totally agree with you it is your opinion and if Walton was better he would be number 2 but he isn't ..fact ...
