Re: wow proclivity... you never use that word regular do you Marc - lots of people want to see him in the starting line-up ahead of Sam next week. That's my point.
I'm fully behind Sam and hope he has a great season. I started this thread to discuss the fact that people are getting slated by daring to suggest that Sam has had a poor pre-season and therefore should maybe start on the bench against Ipswich. Doesn't mean I think he shouldn't be given a decent run in the team this season and that we should flog him while we've got the chance!
Many apologies - didn't count them up - responding to this and another post. Will try harder next time not to exagerate!
But in the darkest depths of Mordor I met a girl so fair But Gollum, the evil one Crept up and slipped away with her......
In a different thread I suggested I'd like to see Payne up front alongside Sam or Tom. A little and large pairing. Or, Watkins and Sam/Tom. From what I've seen in meaningless friendlies, Bradshaw and Winnall don't look the idealistic partnership. I hope to be proven wrong on that. In essence we should all be happy that we've a number of options.
Yep i've suggested this might be an option. Not writing Sam off, just looking at the alternatives. And I think its great that we seem to have some options up top for the season. I think my point is that if people question Sam's performances in pre season I don't think it automatically makes them a fool. Same for all the players. Think hecky will start with both tom and Sam but it's also interesting to debate other options. Sent from my Kestrel using Tapatalk
I may be miles off here but I think it's put peoples noses out of joint that he's refusing to sign a contract, and so it should. He hasn't shown anywhere near enough to merit a big move to a club bigger than us. If it is indeed the case he needs to realise he hasn't done it at this level yet and although yes he was scoring goals, Adam Davies for example was doing just as an important job at the back with crucial match winning saves and he's not being a billy big ********. I like Sam and want him to stay, course I do, but I am really struggling to understand where he has got this ego from. He's no better or worse than anyone else from last years starting line up, they all need to prove it, not go about saying he won't sign contracts. Same with Conor but I personally believe he and Adam are our best players so I can let his slide. Obviously only my opinion on that last part.
Erm me, i give a **** about last season and so do countless others who witnessed it. I would say its about time you got out more and lived life to the full but i have a feeling if you entered the real world with your "I'm right everyone else is wrong" attitude you would probably end up with a good hiding off someone.
Adam Hammill let his contract run down, he still performed and still ended up signing. Maybe Sam and Conor will do the same, maybe they won't. But to pick on one of them, and to say "where is this ego from" and suggest he's being 'billy big ********' is a bit harsh, based on absolutely **** all. Footballers are within their rights to make career choices, as are we all. They aren't supporters. So long as they do their best when employed by BFC, what's to grumble about? And hasn't Winnall done that, given his best? First striker in 40 years to score more than 20 in a season for us. That's a third of the time that BFC has existed...
Adam Hammill is a much better player and has played higher up before and apart from his problems he showed he can cut it. Sam and Conor haven't and I think their decision to decide not to sign contracts because they think they are better than our club (which, to use your words, is based on absolutely **** all.) Other players are as important as both those two but they aren't refusing to sign contracts? I don't think the billy big ******** comment is based on nothing if they are refusing when they haven't done anything to even remotely suggest they are better than the level they are currently at. 20 goals in L1 is very good but we all know this league is more than 1 step up. 1 i'm hoping every single player makes but when a few are showing the sort of attitude that says, "I feel i'm better than this club" it's never going to sit well with me and many, many others. I hope they both do what you say but as someone else said further up he may end up with egg on his face if he doesn't hit the ground running.
Conjecture, nothing more. I haven't heard Sam or Conor say they won't sign a new contract. They are merely keeping their options open. As would anyone with a brain.
Something that comes out of Patrick Crynes mouth, to me anyway, isn't conjecture. So does that suggest that people who show loyalty to a club that has taken them from L2 to the Championship don't have a brain? I would disagree with that but opinions are just that. My point weren't that they won't play well and that I won't support them while ever they are here because I have supported every player who wears a Barnsley shirt even if I didn't think they were the best player and I have and never will boo anyone. What I will do though if someone comes into my/our club with the help of absolutely everyone from Hecky, the coaches and their team mates, start considering themselves to be better than those people around them when they haven't ever proved as much, will get my back up and probably many others, which they won't forget.
