Does that 366 include support staff/dignitaries etc? It looks bad but it means nothing - you're operating a TV Channel, digital platforms etc for about a month - I'm surprised it's as little as that.
It just goes to show how we now except as normal, the ridiculous.. The easiest think in the world is to spend other peoples dosh.
The most difficult thing in the world is to deliver a world class service for next to nothing compared to the likes of Sky. Easy to be critical when people don't understand the details.
So if they were covering a world title fight are you suggesting that they should send no more than 2 people to cover it? We only had a squad of 24[?] at the Euros but I'm guessing there were more than that for the beeb ... I agree with hindsight, and given the performance, 2 bbc employees would have been enough Seriously a better way to look at it might be either the number of events taking place ... or the number of people that will watch. Personally I think the BBC is great value for money. Having worked abroad for a good number of years I can tell you that it is held as the standard bearer for impartial news
Can someone please explain why the BBC comes in for so much criticism? For me its one of the few things that the UK does that is truly world class. along with the NHS & BFC. My only explanation is that certain politicians and other media outlets don’t like the BBC investigating some of their more suspect behaviours.
thats one reason - the other reason is Murdoch doesnt want to have to compete against such an excellent organisation and he has 2 much influence on the british media and politicians
It's all the local sports reporters that have been sent that get me. I now live in Nottingham and watching the local BBC news yesterday evening they had an East Midlands Today reporter in Rio, the night before I'd watched the late Look North bulletin and Tanya was in Rio. So I'm assuming each region has sent a sports reporter.
Because it is extortion. Threatening people with jail just to watch TV, even if you never watch any BBC content. They've now managed to work it so it's essentially the case that if you have an Internet connection you have to pay them. And for what? Homes under the hammer, eastenders and The Voice. I get the desire for unbiased journalism, but they should cut everything but the 24 hour news channel and investigative journalism like panorama. As for the 455 staff in Rio, that is simply ridiculous. They'll be provided pictures by the host broadcaster, there's simply no need for that many people to go.
I dont know owt about making telly, but this morning as I cycled to work, I passed the filming of Hinterland (don't know if you are even aware of that). There must have been close to 200 people involved in the filming. Spring Watch was filmed down the road for the last 3 years. That took a village full of people to record. I can see why Rio might take 455. Last week I recorded a news item. One person did the whole interview, recording, filming and editing. Looks like they don't use staff when they dont need, at least for the news.
Just like council tax, National Insurance & VAT is extortion? It's a tax levied by the government to provide a service for the people. And it's f.cking brilliant.
You can't say that they're supposed to be a hotbed of leftist, EUcentric, fascist apologists. Delete according to preference.
Don't forget that all of the camera work fr the Olympics is done by somebody else, the BBC simply use their feed.
