I was hoping that 'sit darn' banter was last season's craic....it's obviously carried on. A couple of us got thrown out at Shrewsbury last season for trouble that had been caused by us refusing to sit down because we wouldn't have been able to see with everybody in front of me still standing.
Exactly, and that's fair enough IMO. Your not being inconsiderate and are conscious of others. But some just don't bother and stand up in middle of stand causing loads of unrest way back. The incident at Wembley was so unbelievable the people who were stood were on the fekin front row , VBunbelievabl.
Yep we have some right ******** fans who actually think standing up I front of people is ok Wasn't me at the game btw, I didn't go
A lot depends on the rake of the seating of course. Sometimes it is so steep that even if someone big stands up you can see past them, or over them. I don't think that was the case at Portman Road though, from the brief bits I saw on the highlights. So, I can well imagine that one or two people standing up would block quite a lot of the view of the pitch. You might say "So what - we are excited to be there". Those behind are justified in saying "Sit down, I've paid a great deal of money to be here and I want to watch ALL of the match, not just some of it". I'm not a confrontation kind of person - never have been - so I am unlikely to get aggressive with people who block my view at a match. It does annoy the hell out of me though that I have to keep getting up out of my seat just because those in front of me do so. Some do it as we are crossing the half way line, just in case there might be something to jump up and down about! It's a selfish, what do I care attitude. I've missed the odd goal from my seat in the ESL because of some giant jumping up for no good reason. The rake of the seats down there is quite shallow so it's easy to miss things on the pitch. I could go and sit somewhere else I suppose, but I like being on the half way line and it's MY seat for the season. So why should I be forced out of it due to some ignorant person who just wants to be on his feet?
I was sat on the same row next to the two small kids. There was no need whatsoever for the fella who shouted 'sit darn' to be as aggressive as he was - neither was it owt to do with the fella with the Two small kids. If anything he should have told the overly aggressive mature bloke to stop swearing in front of his kids - not quite sure why he dint. Can never understand why folk think they can command someone to do as they wish as opposed to politely requesting! We're all in the same section for the same reason aren't we? As for standing before kick off to welcome the team and then remaining standing 30 seconds once game started did certainly not justify either reaction. For me folk standing as above are dedicated, passionate fans singing out loud to encourage the boys on. Those overly aggressive impolite men did neither stand or utter words of encouragement all 90 minutes. I know who those 11 on the pitch appreciate the most !!!
I always took it as an unwritten agreement between fans, if you want to stand up then go to the back of the stand, and if you want to sit you head for the front of the stand. Granted, more difficult with a designated seat.
If that's the case then fair enough ,getting settled after welcoming team on no problem , But you know as well as I do there's some just don't give a fek. Personally I don't bother saying owt I get a bit annoyed but I'm OK on mi feet ,it's the others around mi I feel for. By the way I think the 11 lads on the pitch appreciate all our support whether we sat in quiet reflection or what.
It's simple for me as i'm 6ft 3ish. I won't just stand up as I appreciate I could and probably will block someones view but if i've paid good money like everyone else and there's people in front of me stood up i'm going to do the same and hope that the people behind me realise what is happening and acknowledge that I have to be stood up. This, unfortunately wasn't the case at Wembley. We were about 10-12 rows back behind the nets and no exaggeration, the first 9 rows in front were stood up most of the game so obviously me, my dad, my mum and everyone else we were with stood up only to hear threats from idiots behind us not having the common sense to see what was happening and that we simply HAD to stand to not miss anything. It was worrying though when his young son around 8 or 9 year old said, "Dad it's not them, those in front are making them stand up." I just thought fair play young man, you have more common sense in your young years than your father does clearly. He apologised at half time so it was okay but a few threats were given out to me and my dad which we didn't take kindly to.
It shouldn't be unwritten though should it ? If people are unsteady, elderly or whatever are paying to go to a match the least they should expect is seeing the game. I'm all for bringing back safe standing ,I know a lot of fans like to stand and fair play to em ,I did myself and if terracing is an option still do but till then.!
Do you even read your own posts or are you a goldfish? You said he was calling someone obeying the rules an arsehole. The arsehole in question was breaking the rules by threatening violence.
You're right I'm sure they do appreciate all our support but if they had a choice I think they'd be unanimous with the vocals.....................
If you're the lad with fair hair, that was sat towards the end of the row, you didn't just say 'we're a bit excited and to give me chance and I will sit down'.
Theres been a standing problem in the area of the Ponty where I sit for years. Theres a group in the first full block nearest the East Stand who are on their feet for most of every match and sitting to their right I have no option but to stand when we attack the Ponty. With bigger crowds this year I dont expect to use my seat at all during the match. And at 64 it aint getting any easier. What do the stewards do? Nothing. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Which came first ********,the standing up or the threats.? I didn't advocate anyone making threats as being in the right at all. I said the op was ironic as he was complaining at someone breaking the rules by threatening him whilst breaking the rules by standing ,that's ironic innnit? Don't know what goes off in your head your regularly making your own arguments go an make a cuppa or summat MN
Thanks for posting that mate, I've been hung drawn and quartered by some on here but I knew I would be. Agree with what you wrote, I was still stood from applauding the players out I'd have been sat down within a minute had I been given chance like I did for the rest of the game. Can I add to the arseholes category the five brave p!ssed up morons who decided at half time to kick three young-ish lasses out of their front row seats a few rows in front of where we were and stand up (or aggressively semi-consciously totter around given the state they were in) so the next two or three rows (mainly old 'uns and kids) could see **** all. They left when Ipswich's third went in, presumably for more ale/drugs. God knows why they went to Ipswich. Second prize to the wnakers who can't go the 40 odd minutes from Peterborough to Donny on the train without a ***/drugs.
So essentially you were stood up in seating area and the other bloke eas wrong tou right you're an arse hole
way I see it the ref blows the whistle for off you are in a seating area you should sit you sit down, end of, granted the guy could have asked politely but mebbe he had experience of the same thing before and he was at the end of his tether
