Has he said it was Andy's fault for half the goals because as far as I remeber he said the entire team were sloppy in their defending which they were, doubt he'd single out one player to criticise because unlike I doubt he enjoys a good scapegoat, plus i'd guess well over half of the people on this board would disagree with it was even a legitimate penalty (yes I know it was given so that's all that matters but we don't blame Shilton for the Hand of God do we)
Which bit? It's nothing to do with scapegoats. Its strange on this board how people think it can harm a footballers career if you tell them they've made a mistake. Football changing rooms can be very nasty and brutal places. If someone ****s up you tell them. Like Yids was told on Saturday. If you dont tell them they dont learn. Every mistake made on Saturday will be gone over and over until the player stops making that mistake. I take it people think Hecky is wrong as well then? and that Yiadom was infact standing in the right position to mark Murphy from the throw? In which case they must think Heckys judgement on a fullbacks positioning when defending throwings around the box is wrong. I'd be worried if that was the case seen as he played that position professionally for 15 years.
Interesting looking back at the replay of our goals conceded in this match. For the first goal, Yiadom marks his man, who heads on rather than taking on the full back. Ward is not picked up in the middle, which may be the prerogative of our centre back or centre midfielder. So poor cover in the centre. Goal two comes from the right, so maybe White should have been on the case. In the event Scowen goes to cover but doesn't quite make it. For goal three there is a man on the touchline (Sears) who Yiadom was no doubt keeping an eye on, but he sees the need to come across and help out Roberts, conceding the penalty in the process (with an "assist" from Roberts). For goal four, Yiadom is properly positioned on the line. The ball goes back out and Ward is not picked up by central midfielders. So the notion that Yiadom was somehow at fault for two of the four goals does not hold water, to my mind. I originally posted the suggestion that we might benefit from bringing Long back in (if he is available) as a question. If you listen to Hecky's post-match interview you can be in no doubt that he is concerned about the goals conceded, and emphasises the need to stop that - and "win ugly" if need be. My feeling is that Long would help with the overall organisation of the defence - including the supporting cover provided by midfield. For what it's worth, it would also give us the option to go 3-5-2 if we decided that the needs of the Championship merited a variation from our successful approach of last year. I still support the idea of allowing our youngsters to grow into this league, but I again raise the question of whether an appropriate experienced head might not help them in the learning process.
The first one Yiadom was positioned wrongly when marking Murphy. He gave Murphy the advantage. It is blatantly obviously. Hecky specifically says in his interview that Yiadom was half a yard off positionally. The penalty Yiadom made a clumsy challenge. Thats 2 out of 4 goals.
Don't agree with you about the first. For the penalty the man was arguably not his to mark. So I don't agree with your view. But it's all about opinions.
So do you think Hecky is wrong then? And should have told Yids he did everything right from that throwing rather than highlighting the clear mistake he made?
Hecky has his opinion, you have yours, I have mine. But irrespective of that, a goal is not inevitable when the ball goes across - particularly if the centre back or centre midfielder picks up Ward. So to say that Yiadom is at fault is incorrect - in my opinion.
Yeah, but yours is wrong. Redarmychris is never wrong, we have established this a few times over the past month or so.
I could say the same about everyone else. Every who disagrees with me are never wrong either in their eyes. What Hecky stated publicly though matched my opinion so I'd suggest when I say that Yids needs to work on his positional play then I'm not far wrong.
