It seems like the point of this thread has been completely lost on some people. The original post isn't really about whether you should stay seated at games or not it's the threatening and violent behaviour of fans towards others which seems to be the main topic of discussion. I think we can all agree that people shouldn't disadvantage folk who are less mobile by standing up in front of them all game, however, if I find it incredibly hard to believe that everyone who believes you should stay seated throughout a game never leave their seat. What about when a goal is scored, or a player is racing through on goal? It's a natural reaction to jump to your feet in excitement for a few moments. And I'm sure most people who are less quick to their feet understand and accept that. By the same token I'm sure most of those who do stand up on occasions are usually willing to sit down if asked politely. That's the point here, the blokes were clearly resorting to violent and threatening behaviour which I've seen all too often by some fans at grounds, and it's that which is unacceptable.
To be fair to the OP, there are some proper arseholes in the Ponty though, that's why I'm in the East Upper (waits for comments).
Defintiely agree with the points raised about the violent and threatening behaviour being unacceptable.
Stadia were made all seater so you should sit Stadia were made non-smoking so you shouldn't smoke Simple.
Cost is a very good reason why it isn't isn't it? And I agree that atmosphere is lower since seating but is that due to seats or is it because the people who like to sing are no longer together in a group? Previously you would move to an area together to sing, these days your seats could be anywhere in the stand. It's no coincidence that noise tends to come from large groups sat near each other these days
I agree that the threatening behaviour is totally unacceptable but I also notice that in the original post the man wasn't aggressive from the get go. He shouted the time honoured call of 'sit Darn's after the match had got going and instead of sitting down it appears that wellsie turned round unnecessarily and started saying something to the man 'explaining'. Explaining what exactly? That he would sit down in a bit?
Violent, threatening and foul language isn't acceptable at any point and that's fair enough I totally agree but the rest of your thread seems to be that people are going about their normal business or emotions and that's why they are being targeted. the majority of incidents I have seen have involved people with no intentions of sitti g down at any point. There may be a few isolated incidents where people have stood up and been shouted at etc but in the main that's not the case , it's still not acceptable however for abuse and that is what I was referring to in an earlier post further up involving the policing priority of the policy. A case for safe standing IMO and zero tolerance of standing in seated areas.
Arent there designated areas for the disabled? Or am I imagining them? I wonder how the Leeds, Wednesday etc fans cope considering they stand all game, every away game and create a much better atmosphere than our sit downers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There are a small number of seats for severely disabled people but the mildly disabled or generally able bodied but elderly or people otherwise unable to stand for long periods of time sit with the general fans in the stands. Don't you agree that they have an expectation to be able to see the game from the seat that they have paid good money for? I agree that there is nothing wrong with standing at football matches and that there should be a way to allow it in certain areas but while we there are seats and the rules clearly state no standing then it is the people deliberately inpgnoring these rules at the expense of their fellow supporters who they give zero consideration for who are selfish. Surely you can't argue against that
Tbh I'm astounded that a law suit hasn't been issued from punters paying for a seat at a match and not being able to see because it's not being policed by clubs causing a breakdown of the law.
couldn't agree more to this donnytyke...much better atmosphere at other games compared to BFC's due to all these miserable sit darners zzzzzzz
I remember when I was a kid I loved it when everyone stood up n made some noise. That said, there should be sections for people who want to sit down and those who want to stand. What is annoying though like I've brought up earlier, even when its sit where you want, the sit downers go to the back and still complain that those infront stand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What from my post are you disagreeing with? I'm not giving an opinion as to what people should do, I'm stating what happens. Unless you think sitting down results in more singing?
I think maybe they do that because the elevated position provides a better viewing angle of the pitch and complain because the selfish people choosing to break the rules are blocking their view and stopping them from viewing the game from the elevated position they have paid for
