Or this year's equivalents. Current starting XI worse than the one that finished last season. That midfield will relegate us as it stands. Chasing the ball, unable to read the game. The number of times Northampton managed to come through the middle with ease is worrying considering the better quality we are facing. Ball needs to stick up front and movement needs to improve. Hourihane, Hammill and later on Kent had no options to release the ball when attacking. Anyway let's see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That wasn't personal at Scowen - just how the midfield is set up. I like Scowen, but he needs to adapt quickly to the Championship. Brownhill read the game exceptionally well last year imho and it was telling how few we conceded after he came into the team.
I know but you are right. Brownhill better at that role. Big curve for Josh, big curve for all of them. I think Hecky will face a choice to try and keep scoring and hope we tighten up OR change the shape and go say 451 to try and grind results out. I hope we can do the former. I can't help but think a repeat performance of last season is being hoped for in certain quarters. About 4 players short as it stands. Recruitment seems tailored to L1 in some ways still.
We can only afford what we can afford. Going to be a judgment call on what needs spending to keep us up
Brownhill just simplifies the role and makes it a lot easier for himself. Literally our centre mids were in cruise control last season. I love players like Josh Scowen but at this level they can start to look like headless chickens. We saw that with Dawson and Perkins. The best centre mids are the ones who don't look like they're busting a gut to get around the field and close down. They make it easy for themselves by always been it the right place. Was a throwback the the way we played in the bad run under johnson last night. One up front at home and players seemingly not quite sure what they were supposed to be doing. When you add to that the failure to put the game to bed with all the chances we had, and the poor defending, both collectively and individually am sure i wasn't the only 1 in the ground that wasn't the least bit surprised when they got that late winner. Bit like the first half of last season.
Find it hard to criticise the midfield when there was nothing in front of them and Northampton's centre midfield hardly had a sniff all night. Much easier to look good with Winnall and Fletcher up top and linking than Bradshaw and the awol Moncur.
Id be on blower to sarfhampton. 10% of the stones cash. Isgrove set the tempo last season. Miss his work rate. Desire and determination.
