Hard to be too critical on Davies because he had what I'd say was a solid season in our previous campaign. I would have him at fault for 2 goals from Ipswich where for me he didn't do enough, and the one last night where he has pushed it into the net. Loss of concentration maybe? Don't want to seem too harsh but needs to up his game. I would certainly be looking to bring in stiffer competition for the place than I believe we have at the moment. End of the day, without those goals we could have started with at least a draw in the league and maybe won the cup game on pens..
I agree. I was at Portman Road and thought precisely the same. I was surprised not more people questioned his performance there.
His own goal last night was in normal time. We'd have gone through 1-0. That said, his performances last season have bought him enough good-will from me to let him get over these gaffs.
Davis is an excellent goalkeeper who made a mis judgement tonight. Not the first keeper or the last.Games over we move on.If the forwards put the boot through the ball instead of "from me to you" we would have won comfortably.
He's had a shocking start to the season but I'd stick with him, if he's not improved after another 3 or 4 games then possibly look at a loan move before the end of the window but I think he's definitely earned the right not to be dropped after 2 bad performances with how good he was for the last 7 months of last season
To be fair, I did say I didn't want to be over critical so no need to throw accusations of creating a new scapegoat. It's just a noted point and it's a perfectly valid point as far as I'm concerned. Every player needs to remain at the top of their game in order for us to be competitive in this league.
You're not allowed to criticise the performance of well liked players on this forum mate. If they're universally thought of as poor like Kennedy or Wiseman you can throw out personal and abusing insults. But criticising favourites on a football level isn't allowed.
He has no one to push him to make him better. We know Townsend isn't good enough and Hecky doesn't want to play Townsend. Get a better keeper who will push Davies further will make him better. Losing concentration is easy when he has no pressure on him.
There is a distinct difference between making a factual point and going OTT slating a player, saying he is *****, not fit to wear the shirt etc.. I'm quite confident my original post fell into the factual point category..
Aye reyt so when a players playing Shiter than let I've seen before we can't say he should be on his bike? If I was in charge he'd hav bin on transfer market 5pm setdi and find someone who looks like thev played in goal before. Mistakes will see us religated in this league mark my words.
Good job your in charge of exactly nothing then, Davies was poor in both games but we know he has the ability and he's only 24 which is really young in goalkeeping terms so I think we should give him abit more time than just 2 mistakes, as the OP was suggesting
I don't understand you saying Davis has been poor in both games. On Tuesday night he made one critical error but apart from that he was fine.Players in every league in the world make poor passes or misjudgements during games,it doesn't make them bad players.
He wasn't great I agree some of stick he came into after the match was stupid and his overall game was good I said that myself but his own goal was poor, then two minutes later he almost let in another (fair enough there wasn't much more he could do about it) and then he failed to stop the 2nd when it was inches from him, I'm not slating him overall think he's a fantastic keeper and I hope he stays here for years he's just not been up to the standard of what he normally is thats all and we'll certainly need him at that standard against Derby
