Fook me if a non league guy with a few minutes of pro football is being belittled and berated at already when the morning experienced guys should be stepping up it looks bad and like he is the easy target.

No it doesn't it was a blatant error on Paynes part that lead to the goal.

Honestly one minute people are saying footballers are mollycoddled brats but as soon as any criticism comes their way everyone gets scared of hurting their feelings incase it might knock their confidence.

It's refreshing to have a manager come out and say yeah he ****ed up today and he'll be told about it and he'll learn from it.

I think it's refreshing. Hecky bleeds Barnsley. With him 100%

I agree. I'd prefer Hecky to do this kind of thing in private but his honesty is refreshing.

It's fair to say he lost his man, but there was a keeper (allegedly) and men on the line. I don't even think it was the main thrust of Hecky's remarks if you read them. He seems more exercised about the number of chances we missed. So I think this thread is somewhat misleading. And if any player needs criticising it's Davies. His horrific and amateurish gaff not only cost us our lead but changed the direction of the game. At the end of the day though this side has come through by teamwork and team spirit and it must continue to stand or fall on that. Last night we simply weren't good enough.

Not sure what you mean? He blatantly said he wasn't happy with Payne leaving his man from the corner. He said he cant be a liability in such a way.

Are you involved in football in a professional capacity?

I'm not sure what relevance that question has to the quote?

    Fair enough, that was all.

I've looked at Hecky's comments on the club site. I can see no mention of Yiadom by name following the Ipswich game and no specific mention of Payne after Northampton. The radio Sheffield clips I've heard likewise do not mention individuals, so far as I can recall. Tbh, I'd be surprised if Hecky did go down that line as it doesn't appear his style. So unless he has said more on player, then it seems to me that your comments about Yiadom and Payne are unsubstantiated and that you are misrepresenting Hecky's published thoughts on those games. In particular, I think he was more concerned after Northampton about the missed chances and lack of opportunities created. Mistakes were made, including by those two players, but I didn't see Hecky singling them out. That's why I think the title of your thread is misleading.

He makes specific references to both Yiadom and Payne in both interviews. Highlighting their mistakes very clearly and uses their names on both occasions.

He refers to Yiadoms mistake when marking Murphy from the throw in and Paynes mistake when marking O'Toole from the corner.

Just because you haven't heard it doesn't mean he hasn't said it. He definitely singled those players and those mistakes out. Why would I make it up?

He refers collectively to defensive mistakes in the Ipswich post-match interview and also to specific balls in but does not mention Yiadom by name. The interviewer mentions Yiadom and the other two debutants by name but Hecky's comments are more of a collective nature about the poor defending. I have to concede that he does refer to Payne not marking his man in the post-Northampton interview, although he is balancing out Payne's contribution because the interviewer asked him about the effort from Payne which hit the bar. So overall, I'd have to concede you a draw on that one.

I still say though that Hecky's outlook is focused more on the team's efforts as a whole, whereas you said initially 'Hecky is ruthless with his words', implying (along with your title) that he is fond of criticising individual players ('Yiadom the other day and Stefan Payne today'). I don't think he'd have got the team playing like he did last year if that was his bag.

    Yes he does mention Yiadom.

    He specifically mentions Yiadom.

He says he was half a yard out of position when marking Murphy from the throw in.

He is ruthless. He's to the point. He's doesn't paper over the cracks and he doesn't ******** people. It's not a bad thing to publicly criticise things that everyone can see happen on the football pitch.

It's things beyond closed doors that you don't hear mentioned. As far as what happens on the pitch though Hecky just says it exactly as it is.

It's a good thing that he mentions these things. It helps educate fans that don't pick up on the more intricate details of the game.
