Is anyone optimistic of getting even a point against Derby?

In my opinion present team is weaker than we finished last season with. Poorly recruited in close season.. Main man in a fragile defence (Mawson) apparently wanting away. Fear the worst, but hope I'm wrong.

 

Going on Tuesday night's showing then no, but interested to see how they lift themselves against a top Ch'ship side.

 

They were run close by Grimsby at pride park on Tuesday but I think they'll have too much for us. Would be delighted with a point tbh.

Our defence so far is looking weak, but we always have a goal in us. Therefore i'd stick with putting us in a BTTS bet.

 

Yes, I'm optimistic. I accept Derby have a squad full of quality players. But I also believe we, too, have some quality players. Players who have shown that their commitment to Barnsley Football Club on the field cannot be questioned. They've earned the right to play at this level and pit themselves against clubs like Derby.
I'm certainly not going to write off any of our new players so quickly and so soon into their Barnsley careers.
It's great to be in the Championship & I certainly wouldn't swap places with any club in Division 1.

 

The early indications suggest we're going to come up short on numbers and on quality in this league. That said, no-one better than Hecky and Tommy to sort it out, and it looks like we'll have money in the bank. But it might be better saved until January, when we've had more time to assess things.

 

Not sure how many more we'll get second half tho :-D

 

We were very unlucky not to have won both opening games.
Ipswich result was very flattering to them. Never a penalty, we had two cast iron penalties turned down, they should have had a man sent off, Bradshaw missing two sitters, goalkeeper at fault for two goals.
Battered Northampton and another goalkeeping error.

Just needed Davies to be playing at last season's level to have won both games.

You could tell the players knew they'd under performed against Northampton. And I've no doubt Hecky and Tommy told them as much in no uncertain terms.

I expect a reaction to the loss and can see us putting in a good display.

Depends on the system that Hecky goes for. I hope that he'll refer back to the 442 that was so successful and just let the lads go and play their natural game. Let's be fair, the pressure is ok them rather than us. They'll expect to win so let's frustrate and go from there. Plenty of sides did the exact same to us in the first half of last season. If we do lose though.....let's not panic. Derby should be there or there abouts by thread end of the season.

I don't think that the side is actually any weaker, I think it's just that we haven't built up an understanding or chemistry yet but that was always going to be the issue with short term loans so I'm hardly surprised that we are suffering from it now.

Having said that I don't actually think it was the players that were the problem on Tuesday night, I think hecky got it completely wrong and we never recovered from the disastrous starting 11 and formation. Im sure that he will have seen the same as everyone else and will make changes to play a positive formation which is where we shine
