Like offer him very decent wages from the Stones money (I know it's a long term investment but I'd definitely pay him a little bit extra!!) and bonuses. On top of that put a release clause in stating that if we get relegated you can have a buy out of a 100k fee to teams in the higher leagues or abroad. I'd even chop one of mi ****** of for him to sign a new contract
dont be silly Frog, keep your ****** in tact lol. i agree about hourihane being a massive player who we need to keep hold of, but we mustnt break the bank of course on one player. this is a frustrating thing here because weve got money and hes got skill obviously, he showed that today. but did he show it because hes playing for the club or is he playing for a contract at a bigger club ?
I look forward to him getting stick when he decides to leave on a free, and then returning to Oakwell as an opposing player to a chorus of boos. Enjoy your weekends, people.
Id try to use a chunk of the stones cash to tempt him into signing a big contract. then if we sell him we'll get it back anyway. I believe were on the verge of something special with this team but also just as close to it all falling apart when players leave. its not just connor, eg Scowen cant have long left on his contract we should be trying to extend them now not at the last minute. it was obvious from the first season CH was a great player maybe we should have started talks before start of last season
your only saying that AP White because its your 40th birthday apparently, and your a bit sloshed after having too many tizer pops.
I think Conor is immense. His ability, dedication, attitude. Fabulous. I'd love to keep him, I think he's key to our progression. However:- he's not from Barnsley He's not even English. He has done everything we've asked of him and more. He owes us nothing. He wants to play at the highest level he can both for professional and monetary reasons. He has the ability to earn himself a very big wage at another club at a level that matches his professional aspirations. Why would he sign a contract with us that would make achieving that less likely? Yes he could put in release clauses but unless it's a clause that still generates a significant amount of money for us as a club it's fairly pointless. If it is such a clause then it will deter interest. I hope he can be persuaded but I reckon it's pretty clear it will have been suggested to him and turned down. He can't be blamed for that. He's done us fantastic service and should ALWAYS have our thanks for that regardless of how and when he leaves the club.
He won't get boos from me if he leaves for nowt. It's not like he is doing a forisiteri and refusing to play. What did we pay 300k he played a massive part in our promotion and winning the jpt. Now he has stepped up and preforming in the league above. I still think if a contract isn't signed the club will cash in come January on cheap.
Getting promotion is probably our only chance Even if we were doing well and around the top end of the table and another club came in who were 'bigger' but below us, he'd probably still go for the money, which is fair do's.
I don't get this 'he will never sign a contract with us', if we offer him the right money and term and conditions I believe he would sign. At the present moment Conor is our stand out player, for me been MOM in all the first 3 games, it is upto the club to find the right contract.
The answer to all of the above is "for more money." I agree with the original posted, we should test him out now with an improved offer. I doubt any of his team mates would object, and it's really an investment from the clubs side - whatever extra they pay him will be returned in the fee they get for him. I understand he's declined to discuss a new deal this summer which is fair enough, but the goal posts have shifted a little now in what we can afford.
I don't see why anyone would boo him. Two seasons of double figures worth of goals and assists. Started his third season in our first team really well, brilliant captain, got us promoted, won us a Wembley trophy too. If one day he plays against us for someone else it would be crazy for anyone to boo someone who's done so much for us long term.
People aren't going to boo Hourihane unless people see him taking the piss out of the club. I'm okay with people leaving the club more than most. But there's a way to do it. Stones way. Perfect it's done him well signing a new contract didn't it. He's only the worlds most expensive defender. He seemed to keep the club in the loop with star management. Mason Holgate. People weren't happy with him but he came and played. The CLUB made it clear they wanted him to leave and got a deal what suited Barnsley Football Club. Or you get players that take the piss, leave signing for another club until the 3rd of July when the club seemed to think he could still sign a new contract with them. Meaning the club were behind in planning. It seemed Holiday on the booze was more important than getting the future sorted. This same player had failed trials at 16 at other clubs and could quite easily have been on the way out of the game. Turned down for a loan at Grimsby
Didn't john stones leave with about 5 minutes left before the transfer window closed putting us miles behind with our planning?
Myth - "Stonesy protected BFC by signing a new deal before he left" Truth - Stones got an extension in the summer of 2012 as per stipulations and clauses being met in his previous contract.
