Won the Tour de France in July, then took part in the Olympic road race and won a bronze in the time trial. He starts the three week Vuelta a Espana tomorrow.

Meanwhile, on planet football some players are still resting after play five matches six weeks ago. Worth every penny.

Think Froomey will not be too bothered if he doesn't win, probably using it as training for next years tour....Quintana has got something to prove here hasn't he...

As has Contador. If Contador does win he should forget about joining Trek and retire on a high.

Natural ability and commitment? If you've got that then crack on.

No place to hide in cycling now. It may have been the worst sport for drug cheats, and a lack of desire to root them out, but not now. I'm sure there'll be proportionately the same numbers of "cheats" in the sport as there is in any sport that requires endurance, strength, power, stamina. But I doubt any sport does as much as cycling does now to filter them out, and it'll be as clean as it ever has been.

There was less than 8 minutes separating the Top 10 riders this year, which is nothing over 2200 miles.

If you've not done so already, read "The Secret Race". Astonishing book.

I don't think it's totally clean but like you say it's done a great job of cleaning itself up.

What I like is that every team is able to compete, you even see the French getting Bardet on the podium where as in the 2000's you had US Postal, Telekom & CSC with organised doping programs dominating most of the rest
