It was the wording he used again. He seemed to go back on the comments about he'll only go when we've found a replacement today to he's got a value and for me that's the way to go. Mawson seems so calm but hearing that might have annoyed him a little.

Serious question because I have never played FM but why would a professional football manager use a video game to scout players? I can't believe there is any truth in this. Wouldn't it be like NASA saying they use Space Invaders to do scientific research or the Highways Agency saying they use Frogger to plan road safety.

    Clubs do use it.

Miles Jacobson (Director of Sports Interactive) says quite a few managers and clubs do but he only ever say those that say it themselves.

Solskjaer, Carlo Cudicini are known players and have said it's help them in coaching and learn about the game. Those that critise it don't play it.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...nar-Solskjaer-Football-Manager-obsession.html

'It's a fantastic game, I have learned a lot about football.
'I have learned a lot about players, especially young talent.
'It resembles real life when it comes to who will be good players.

That's from th link above. In the documtary about the game he admitted that it helped him when he went to Molde and they went onto win the league in Norway.

The detail in the game is immense, SI who make the game employ people all round the world to scout players. Honestly, it's remarkably accurate. I've signed players on it at various levels who I've never heard of but have been scouted by my scouts on the game. A year or two later I hear about them in the real world.

Ronaldinho was the first I remember around 1999.

The main effect I can see is that now West Ham are out of Europe they won't need as big a squad and are more likely to let the likes of Burke and maybe Fletcher out on loan next week.

Hourihane's our premier player, whether people are in for him or not. Lose Mawson and it'll be a blow but one I think we can recover from, if we lost Hourihane now I'd fear for our safety.

When I was learning to be a businessman I once bought a hotel on Park Lane, but I went to jail shortly afterwards. Does that count?

Imagine thinking our 'premier player' was anyone other than Hourihane

Imagine thinking the club's premier player would need to be actually valued by premier league clubs and those clubs put multi million pound bids in.

Only issue with loans is it sort of goes away from the long term plan, get in a young hungry player develop them then sell them on for a profit. If the club develops them and they become a much better player throughout the year, the club which they belong to will reap all the rewards with no financial gain for Barnsley.

That said of the club continue to get young players on loan and help them develop they will build up a reputation for this and we will be able to attract a better calibre young player from bigger clubs so these players may be able to influence the teams position in the championship.

One or two loans I think are a good thing but no more focus on developing our own players like Hourihane which I think is the clubs most valuable asset currently.

Why on Earth would anyone put a multi million pound bid in for a player who's contracts up next year & the chairmans made it clear he's not signing another?

Just save the fee & get him on a freebie next year

If they are good enough and they want him they will put the money down for him.

Had people telling me on here that he isn't our best player. Can't wait for the offers to start rolling in for our best players in then, ha.

In reality we have two players that are good enough to be the magic seven figure footballers. He was one and the other goes by the name of James Bree.

If you eliminate their respective contract situations, then the most coveted footballer we have must be Hourihane. After that maybe Hammill /
    Winnall.

Mawson was classy. But as Huddersfield's winner last Saturday shows, not that classy. If it's £5m for us that is good business.

What would not be good business is failing to field a decent replacement.

They all have weaknesses that will put clubs off. It's why clubs aren't really interested yet.

I could go through why clubs aren't interested in detail. But I'm not bothered about the abuse I would take even though it's the reason they aren't been touched by other clubs.
