I thought today showed why we are a far better team than previous Barnsley sides that have played in the Championship in recent years. We did to Preston what other teams seemingly did to us regularly after we dominated the first half. Don't think it's an exaggeration to say we could have had 3 in the first half but sides from the past would have wilted after conceding the equaliser. Pace and goals in the side, coupled with a deep desire to defend well, and we can win any game.

The defence weathered a lot of pressure in the second half, but there's a really deep resolve among the players, all of them, and contributions all over the pitch. Centre halves were outstanding, full backs were good although they looked a bit leggy for a while second half, but finished really strongly. Davies played well too.

What can you say about the winner to do it justice? I'll let a classic Barry Davies line do it for me - "You have to say that's magnificent". And from another Hourihane assist.

All that said, I thought Scowen was our top man today.

A different way to win, but just as enjoyable. COYR

    Disagree with that tbh.
Yes your right about having some players not bothered in the past but have seen some fantastic attitudes in our teams ,great escape season being one example .
Teams havnt been good enough in past but some had plenty of fight .
Don't think its fair to knock past players /teams as a whole don't forget some of these players played under Johnstone and had same heart as now but just s hit coaching instructions

Perhaps, but none as determined as the team we have now. You could argue some of our previous teams had equal or greater quality on paper, but the level of commitment since the turn of the year from this team has been something truly special

Not denying they have something special but its the same desire as the great escape lads who also dug monumental efforts out for results and the cause.

Jason Scotland was brilliant that 6 months, couldn't run to save his life and if he was on the pitch for more than half an hour he'd melt like a malteser on a radiator but he never gave up and scored some very important goals as well

Get what you're saying, especially for those first 5 months under Flitcroft and it's early days at this level, but this group seems to have both the fight and the quality. I wouldn't say it was an unfair observation to say that past sides have wilted though. I've seen plenty of good performances in those years where opponents have nicked a win when we've led, or dominated without taking our chances. We look capable of that now with these players, especially the strikers - winning when not at our best.
