I work in Pilling near Fleetwood and one of the lads on my site was banging on about it this morning, I said I haven't seen or heard owt. Where's this come from?
Whats the clubs take on takeover Gally. something they don't want? Something that's possible? Something they are actively looking for? I really think Barnsley could be a club at the moment they could market well, and with the champ been on the up so much
I don't think its a secret that Patrick would like to sell to the right buyer and he has looked home and abroad for several years but none have been forthcoming that had been able to prove they had the required funds. He said recently, in the Chronicle that he wanted to be out within two years and talked about giving the club to the fans but I know that the fans would be the owner of last resort.
It was in the Sunday sun yesterday said an Italian investment group were interested. I'd rather us not go down that route but it's upto patrick I trust him to pass the club onto good hands if/when he calls it a day. Also said leeds want tommy wright.
Do you still think that is the case? I don't know, I don't know him, but he appears to have been enjoying it much more and seems to be far more involved these last couple of years than he ever did before. I've heard it suggested that's due to the fact that his health has improved, I don't know about that either, but if that is the case then I would suggest a fit and healthy person has more time and more inclination to run a football club than the same person who is ill.
Totally agree. I can't see him selling to anybody at the moment unless he was still massively involved.
I think the continued existence of BFC is his primary concern and he recognises the importance of finding a successor to take over. Quite how desperate he really is to walk away I have no idea.
The problem in the past has always seemed to be that the club doesn't have growth potential in terms of fan base/ population and is loss making. One of those issues has gone now, so perhaps things will change. I badly hope it doesn't . I love the setup at our club
Any potential takeover scares me to be honest. Perhaps that's an overly negative and sheltered outlook, certainly if we're to continue progressing LONG-term, I'm aware that the Cryne ownership will have to come to an end one day. But I started supporting the club properly in 1998-99 and despite the way it ended, I always felt the club was very secure under John Dennis. You knew he had the best interests of the club at heart. Sean Lewis worried me, he was a totally unknown proposition. I was happy with Peter Risdale because I naiively believed he would have learnt his Leeds lesson and been a sound owner. Thankfully P Cryne saved the day before things went totally belly up and he's been an ever present since that time. So I've only known stability at the helm for the majority of my time supporting the Reds, BFC fans at the helm to boot (Admin/Risdale era excepted). I don't like the idea of foreign investors simply because I cant see them wanting us for any other reason than to either sell off our assets or use us a feeder club type set up (Watfrod style). Again, that's probably unfair but I'd rather see us trying to get James Cryne back on board or some other continuation strategy. I hope PC remains right where he is for a good while yet!
It's the Scum, they have just heard about the Italians that came a few years ago, a consortium headed by that Italian that played for Grimsby, Bonnetti??.
but would James Cryne with support I'd imagine from his Dad want anything to do with the business side of Barnsley football club?
I have to admit that I was one of the cynics around the time of Wilson's departure with regard to the involvement of James Cryne and would accept my complete misread of the situation at the time - effectively the early stages of the strategy that has seen a complete revolution at BFC. It would be ideal for everyone, especially Patrick perhaps, to be able to hand the club over to him and we ought to welcome it if it happened.
My understanding is that Patrick had hoped that that James would be his natural successor but I think he's seen the heart ache it's caused his Dad in the 13 years of ownership and doesn't want that for himself. Who can blame him?
not good. I'm sure two years ago didn't help. All it seemed he did was build a system to help identify players and got some awful stick.
Did he really get some awful stick though? I didn't see too much evidence of that. Bits and bobs that you'll always get, but nothing I would call 'awful stick'
