I'm not aware of any legislation requiring that. It's more likely a measure taken by stores that sell across EU countries.
Interesting that Merkel has today appealed to German business leaders to support the principle of access to the single market only in exchange for adherence to free movement. No secret that I was a remainer (remoaner) but will the German entrepreneurs think that they should put EU principles above what is best for their businesses (especially VW in the wake of the exhaustgate episode)?
I think it's mainly the big shops that sell in Ireland as well as the UK who do it so I can't see much if anything changing
I might have imagined the extent of this but I'm sure there were a number of shops in the early 2000's, when the Euro was getting going, that had prices in both Sterling and Euros and had signs up saying they accepted both currencies. I'm guessing there was little appetite for paying in Euros and the whole thing must have cost a bit to administer so it quickly disappeared.

There was indeed. In fact bhs allowed this right up to the end. I saw a woman buying something with euros this spring

it was indeed a joke Jamdrop but it seems some on here just wanna jump down my throat at every opportunity.
Do they take the coins as well? Got a bucket full of them, always forget to take them with me when I go to the continent.
