Possibly. In my head it was 1-0 but perhaps not.

Sometimes on here the words ..great or legend .. are used far too easily. But Paul was great for us, and his partnership with Larry May was special and a joy to watch...

    Very sad news...

Very sad. We had some great defenders at the club, McCarthy, Evans, DeZeuw, Stones, but Futcher was probably the most skill full that I've seen wear a Reds Shirt. 60 is no age.

Just checked, it was 2-0, can't find the scorers and I can't remember who got the other one......

Surely fitting of a minutes applause tomorrow night as even though he's slightly before my time I can appreciate how good he was for us and this is the kind of situation Oakwell should be applauding for.

Wonderful ball playing centre half. I started watchin reds in 1980 futch and glavin were my favourite lakers and boy could they play. Absolutely gutted at the loss of a hero in red.

Such sad news. The classiest of defenders, one can only imagine his value if he were playing football in the current era. Ahead of his time, and an absolute privilege to watch him play for Barnsley.

Just to complete the 2016 annus horribilis, we get this.

A real honour to watch him play week in week out, my favourite centre back of all time.

RIP Futch, as others has already said, the classiest centre half seen in my 40 years as a fan. A true legend.

As others had said previously a wonderful player - have just checked in my dictionary the definition of cool, Paul Newman was there originally, the name Newman was scribbled out and Futcher was overwritten.

A sad sad day - he would have made my all time eleven - he'd have been the sweeper. RIP Paul

Thanks for posting this. It brings back great memories. My mum & dad came down to London to stay with me for a few days and I took them to Upton Park to witness this. We had to keep quiet on the District Line tube going back - full of angry Hammers fans!

That run of Futch typifies the classy centre half he was.

    RIP Paul.
