Lib Dems overturn 23,000 majority , a few Tory MP's down south might throw their toys out the Brexit pram if they think the Remoaners will oust them , could get interesting

It could be Labour's wheels that came off...1500 votes and a lost deposit when Goldsmith and Olney shared 40,000 in a strong remain area....transfer that up north and replace the lib dems and tories with Labour and UKIP in strong Leave areas and it could be very damaging .

The only party who will campaign to reverse Brexit will be the Lib Dems, no Labour MP up North will campaign to stop Brexit , UKIP have just voted a right wing former Tory who believes in privatising the NHS and who got wiped out in the last General Election in his home town . Labours vote held up in Oldham, a town expected to go UKIP particularly in a bye-election . UKIP's reason for being has ended, no more funds for the party from European MP's , the Torys in their ranks will go back, the former Labour voters will just not vote . The Labour vote in Richmond is irrelevant , its been a Lib Dem/Tory seat for ever and most Labour voters hate Goldsmith for his offensive Mayoral campaign and voted Lib Dem . Their are quite a few Tory constituencies who voted Remain who have Brexit supporting MP's around London and the South East , theirs trouble ahead for them

Britain voted to come out of the EU . It doesn't matter what happens in these bi-elections Brexit won .

An interesting day, and Richmond is just the start.

Davis has now strongly signalled a soft Brexit, with single market access and payment to the EU for the same. He is also flagging continuing migration where the economy requires it in sectors with employee shortages. Meanwhile, Boris is also rowing back on the 'free movement' issue. Next week the government will embark on what will be a losing appeal to the Supreme Court, with further constraints on it's ability to act likely to be the outcome.

Brexit will happen, but the government has now stared into the abyss and is seeking the style of exit which most closely resembles remaining. If they pull it off the whole country should breathe a collective sigh of relief at being rescued from it's own act of folly.

Tactical voting. There were even some within the Labour party that called for Labour not to fight it so as to form a progressive left alliance to keep the tories out.

Was just thinking about this. Without a "why didn't you vote Goldsmith" box it's all presumption as it could also be about Heathrow, Goldsmith's terrible mayoral campaign or a general vote against the Government.

But of course, the hideous Farron will claim it's an Anti-Brexit vote.

Just to be a little more accurate on that. c17 million people voted to come out of the EU. c30 million people didn't.

Spot on. I don't think it's sunk in to some people's head's yet. What's the point in having a referendum and being a democratic country if something so big gets overturned?

It will change absolutely nothing in regards of Brexit but this was also about Heathrow. London voted to remain but they are not going to get to change the result by voting in remainer MPs.

Add the non voters and exit voters together. And you will still get a higher figure who didn't vote to stay in either. Just to be as accurate

Around 1.3m difference wasn't it? That's less than the number of likes the Britain First Facebook page has.

No idea what Britain first has got to do with anything.

You can't add non voters to anything.

They signed away their voice by not voting. As does anyone who doesn't vote in anything democratic.

I'm simply balancing this ridiculous idea that you can add non votes to the losing side.

its a very strong pro european wealthy area

I don't think the Tories put up a candidate, they were never going to vote Labour so its hardly seismic.

I'm simply balancing this ridiculous idea that 'Britain voted' to leave. A huge amount didn't and that's not just going to go away. We will remain a nation divided for many years.

    Of course it's divisive subject.

But like I said more still didn't vote to stay. So it can be equally ridiculous that we "voted remain"

45% turn out. Lib Dem candidate has less of a mandate than the Brexit vote. Stats eh.
