Just to expand on this Both keys will start the engine but won't lock or unlock electronically Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When you replaced the battery, you didn't loose the little 'carbon chip' part that's used to pair the key to your car. It looks like a small black magnet. It's the transponder. Without that, your electronic keyfob is useless.
No, the transponder is what allows you to start the engine (ie bypass the immobiliser), that is obviously working. The problem is that you need to pair the key with the central locking system. I had to do this with my car. You should search on t'internet or go on a forum dedicated to the car manufacturer (I got the info I needed on a Jaguar forum).
Daft question, but have you tried looking you car's manual or browsing forums relating to your specific car? It's weird you should ask this as my battery appears to be on its way out but I cannot get to the battery in my fob for the life of me. I know exactly how to do it and I've had a go a few times but it looks as if the last owner may have glued the thing shut. No matter how many times I press where the little tab/button thing should be under my key it just won't budge. I watched tons of videos that all show the same thing but mine definitely looks like it has been glued together Like you, my spare key has never been an electronic one.
Put key in ignition don't start and press unlock / lock button , or put key in door lock and press unlock /lock button
Put key in ignition then turn so that red light is on but engine doesn't turn over. Press the fob button two or three times to re-programme it and then turn off. Should now be able to lock with the fob
No, the missus's old car, a Corsa had a spare key which didn't have any electronic gubbins in. ie. No transponder. The immobiliser was activated and deactivated by double locking with the key in the door. The main key I had to change the fob as the button was shot. The new one worked only when this small carbon chip part was transferred. Shows you the carbon chip 37 secs into this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80vmKuL6M18
Give Steve a call at Sentinel Locksmiths on Summer Lane. He's a wizard wi car keys. 01226 288088 or 07831 209988.
From the manual for MK4 Golf... If the vehicle cannot be unlocked by pressing the opening button ,it could be that the code of the key no longer matches that of the control unit of the vehicle. To synchronise the key press the open button and then either lock or unlock the vehicle within one minute with the mechanical key. MK5 same instructions so probably same for all VAG.
Mechanical key ? Both keys don't work so nothing happens when I try this ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think it just means press the button key then open the door with the key in the lock immediately. This should sync them.
Still doesn't work haha I have booked tomorrow morning at the mentioned locksmiths on summer lane Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Why don't you just ring the dealer. A lot of cars when you change the battery you have to press the buttons a few times to clear the memory after taking the old battery out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
