The idea of associate EU citizenship is still very much on the agenda. I have been in correspondence with Mr Goerens and am pleased to report this development. It remains to be seen what the scheme will cost (if anything) or whether it gets off the ground. But I'll be very interested if it does.

Govt won't do hard Brexit , the consequences that will definitely hit our economy ( regardless what the Brexiteers are preaching otherwise ) will have a profound effect and no govt will risk a leap in the dark.
An agreement on free movement is inevitable .
They can't stop immigration from non EU states let alone the EU.

 

The brexit vote was more or less a referendum on free movement.

So now an agreement allowing free movement will not happen.

 

Yawn.

It will in some form or another with a large slice of parliamentary sweetening .
EU will play hardball as they did with Greece .
A compromise will be agreed no doubt but some form of free movement will be involved, faces saved all round .

 

You cannot have "some form of free movement", by definition.

It's either free or it isn't.

No one knows what will happen when we leave, least of all the Brexit mob, I feel sorry for the people of Gibraltar, I only hope they join Spain, and Scotland who voted to stay, I was against them leaving the union but now I hope they press for another referendom and this time leave the uk.

I posted my support of this in the last thread, and I continue to hope that it will come off.

I have continued to post my support of the EU, however, I came to the conclusion last night that Brexit might be the best thing that could happen for this country. Its not that I think it will work out for the best (far from it), but if/when it doesn't work out then I think that we will as a country be begging to rejoin the EU. I can almost see the look on Farage's face when we rejoin and lose the pound as well as accepting free movement...

 

You obviously know very little about Gibraltarians.

 

O.K. Sad, all I know about the people of Gibraltar is that they voted 96% to remain in the E.U. and are looking at ways to stay in the E.U., you must know more.

 

I would suggest I do know more , but that's probably down to age and I'm not suggesting any intellectual advantage on my part , the British Govt have put the Sovereignty of Gibraltar to the people twice in my lifetime , the first time in 1967 , over 12,000 Gibraltarians voted to stay with the UK , only 44 voted to go with Spain , it was repeated by the Blair Govt. in 2002 but with a shared sovereignty question...the answer was almost identical , with 17,900 voting to remain solely with the UK , and only 187 voting to share Sovereignty ....both votes were 99%...it's probably the most overwhelming margin in any truly democratic vote in history anywhere .

 

You have absolutely no idea whether or not you know more than him. You are just assuming that as (you think) you are older then you must have more knowledge

I agree it is an assumption , putting it down to age was being conciliatory and an attempt to atone for my using the word ' obviously ' in my previous reply , which on reflection may have come across as a little sarcastic which was not the intention .
