Just to prove that old chestnut wrong:- Todays starting eleven were signed from Sheffield Wed Reserves Academy Torquay Halifax Barnet Liverpool Academy Wigan Plymouth Wycombe S****horpe Walsall
Is it really an "old chestnut" though? Ian Wright, Charlie Austin, Troy Deeney, Les Ferdinand and Kevin Phillips did alright for themselves coming from non league, to name a few off the top of my head.
It's not 9 though, is it? One came through our academy(which is great to see), and Wigan, Sheff Wed and Liverpool aren't lower league.
Davies was released from Wednesday wasn't he it's not like we paid money for him they didn't think he was good enough we did.
I don't think Wednesday reserves are a top team. Many on here have said in the past if you buy from lower leagues that's where you end up
You get nowhere signing bad players from lower leagues. Wiseman Kennedy Dawson Signing good players from lowers leagues is probably part scouting, part luck and depends on the player in question being able to improve further. The recent ones we've bought all have seemed capable of this, same as maybe David Currie was back in the day
