I liked the "sharing memories" piece they just released. Would watch more of that. Maybe get fans to dredge up some specific games or moments they remember then match it up with any footage of the game, or written reports from the time and perhaps a piece illustrating the period or season that game was part of.
Sort of like an online scrapbook. Something to browse through and strengthen the feeling of a collective history we all share.
    However.
I would imagine just one small article such as the one they released yesterday takes a considerable number of man hours to produce. So, although there's stuff I'd like to see done...I am realistic enough to understand that we're not Manchester City.

Wow. That's groundbreaking. Meanwhile in Barnsley......

Probably escaped you because you were too busy looking at what the top teams do.

Possibly because YouTube doesn't generate income whereas player does.

So they are going to concentrate on that stream that makes money.

Man city can throw money at any channel they wish even if it doesn't return anything. I don't think we can

For once I can actually see where you're coming from and I agree that the club should be looking at the bigger clubs and trying to emulate them wherever possible. BUT you have to remember that we are a smaller club with smaller budgets and smaller staffing levels which means that they don't have the money or budget to do certain things. I have no idea how many people we have in our media team but lets say for argument's sake that there are three of them (2.5 if you account for Whitey the useless gimp) all on 40 hour a week contracts. It's a seven day operation with obviously a lot of work done on a saturday but also on a Sunday. Suddenly you see that to get those 3 people to cover 7 days stretches things a bit and that would be if they only did one job.

Now remember that they don't d be job, they do the website, Twitter, Facebook YouTube scoreboard things, programmes, press conferences, media enquiries and pretty much anything else that involves dealing with people outside of the club. Give them unlimited time and unlimited access to players and i would lay my mortgage on the fact they would love to be knocking out videos every day. But they do t have unlimited time or access and they have to prioritise.

The next thing to think about is that Manchester city and the big world known clubs have an almost unlimited potential audience. We don't. We would have to be making some absolutely amazing unique videos to get high viewing figures. In fact if we were to make an identical video to the one in this post but featuring Connor hourihane and James Bree with identical questions and answers then it would get nowhere near the same views because sadly not so many people are interested in Barnsley FC. Now we could make truly unique eye catching videos and yes we would get more viewers than we currently do but you have to ask is the reward worth the effort when there are other priorities?
Related to that is the fact that we have a different aim than Manchester city. Their YouTube account isn't there to get more fans and t get people to hear about man city, sky have already done that for them. Their YouTube is to KEEP the club in the public eye. It's saturation, saturate the world with footage of man city and it keeps up the impression of them being huge.
That isn't our aim, ours is to connect with our existing fans and make them feel part of the club, the target audience is much smaller. The secondary aim is to grow the profile of the club in the local area and the way to do that is different to simply keeping an already famous club in the public eye. It really makes very little difference to BFC if 1,000,000 people in China watch our videos because they aren't going to spend money at the club. For man city it IS important because it keeps their world value high. It keeps shirts selling in shanghai and keeps them selling out when they do their previous season friendlies in the far east.

In short we should try to copy what successful teams do wherever we can and wherever it is applicable but at the same time we have to realise that our budget and resources are lower and our priorities and immediate aims differ

YouTube can make you money though. Between the lines youtubers get between 1/2 dollar per k views.

There's youtubers that earn millions. 7 million dollars ? Marketing company's live the platform

That's something I ain't aware of. But I think ST has probably expanded and discussed it better than I did.

Suppose they could utilise it to give snippets to try and attract player subscriptions but it's resources that likely dictate just how much we can do

Barnsley Player is cheap as chips and provides a huge amount of content. Just pay it

To be fair the content range on our Barnsley Player at the minute is very poor.

They've recently started putting up a video on the best action shot photographs taken from each match.

Completely pointless. They should just go in a gallery to view on clubs official website.

Id like to see short documentary style videos of our backroom staff. A day in the life of our physio, sports science team or kitman.

I think it would be great and really interesting to show a piece on our injured players and how they're getting on and treated.

I remember a few year ago Sedgy was filmed talking us through a Danny Rose injury and how we were using an anti gravity treadmill to treat it. I found that really interesting and its something i wish theyd do more of.

I've been working my nuts off all week covering all sorts. It's now Friday night and I'm having a good sup. So I probably shouldn't be commenting much on this.

But regards the chap telling us how to do our jobs, the reason there's a video now showing the action photos rather than a gallery is quite simple. Our Club photographer wasn't happy about people stealing his images, so putting them in video format makes that impossible.

As for the Man City comparisons can I point out they have 90% more media staff and 100000000% more money.

Some cracking replies in this thread though, even bloody Supertyke nailed it. He got it bang on.

Now, back to the ale. Enjoy your weekends and keep tuned to our social media channels. Ta.

Is it just me that has zero interest in the lives of footballers outside their performances on the pitch.

The media team we have work hard are innovative and are helping the club reconnect with its fanbase. I have no interest in the dietary habits of our players. I'd hope and trust that they would do community based work because they wanted to not to generate done hits on YouTube.

    **** I'm turning into a a grumpy old man.

On average 1 million views on Youtube will net the channel around £1000. Not a huge amount in the grand scene of things, but something that keeps channels up and running. There's actually a large amount of channels on youtube that do that as a job (mainly geared towards kids, through Video Games and whatnot). Some make millions and millions from it, but most make less than minimum wage for the time they put in.

    Nice.

The kid who asks "Will Pep let you have any pudding?" at 2.50 is adorable :)

Is this a thread suggesting global brand Man City, with global fans and the draw of global superstar players get more YouTube views than Barnsley because we haven't filmed Monk Bretton primary asking Josh Scowen what he has for his tea?

I've provided a link to show the progress of Barnsley's youtube channel over the last few years. FACT it's declined and showing a large flatline when the platforms growning at a massive rate. I looked on a article recently and it's grown 60% in the last year.

Why don't you start one? Or even try and get a job at oakwell.

I don't know what you do for a job Phil? Be interested to know if you would share that? Because you are very critical of other people so wondering if you work in marketing, or media, sports science/coaching? Perhaps all the skills you utilise in your chose profession could be transferable?
