    A rare thing

    I agree entirely.

His celebration after the goal is fantastic.

I'll stick up for the people who did slate Williams as they were probably only doing so because of what Lee Johnson said about him. You should've addressed your post to Lee Johnson.

And it's a tad hypocritical for you to slate people for slating Williams when you're happy to slate various members of our squad who you have an agenda against.

Every member of our squad is on 'a journey', most are young lads taking on a big new challenge away from their home towns & family in a league higher than they've ever played in so how about supporting them all instead of picking & choosing?

Anyway, well done Ryan Williams, must be a massive buzz for the lad after what he's gone through

I agree with hemsie also. I never respond to his posts but on this occasion it's appropriate. Ryan has clearly been determined to get back despite LJs approach. All credit to the lad. Proper guts and perseverance. Onwards Ryan and upwards!!!

The injury he had is underestimated (seemingly by Johnson in particular) in terms of its severity and time to treat and recover from, the latter not always guaranteed at elite sports levels. What a wonderful year 2016 has been for Barnsley, and thankfully a positive end to it for Ryan Williams. He deserves that goal and acclaim today for sheer perseverance and desire to return to fitness. I for one wasn't sure if I'd ever see him wear the red shirt again in anger.

Not sure how anyone could conclude that a player has returned to the first team despite his manager not wanting it.

    But there we go.

He said there was nothing wrong with him and that his injury was in his head. It was his comments that led to a lot of fans, me included, to get on his back and question his commitment and desire. I'm genuinely pleased for him and I hope he proves us doubters wrong time and time again.

"Mental state", does that comment mean you agreed with Johnson's comments where he is reputed to have said the Williams appears to have a mental barrier that is restricting his progress following little niggles and injuries? I ask in all honesty as I have no agenda and I hope he is back to being the player that he looked like becoming.
Considering LJ's comments surely they would have come from an understanding reached following discussions with medics and physio's. As a person who has suffered injury I can understand that I have to trust those advising me about the next steps in order to aid the recovery process. I would love to know what the local diagnosis/treatment was and what the Australian diagnosis/treatment was and to see if there was any significant difference. Even Williams insinuates that he doesn't know what they (those in Australia) did to make it work. Could it be that "trust" was the factor? If so, what does that say about Johnson's comments?

In fairness Hecky also mentions Williams having to overcome "mental and Physical issues" in his post match interview.I don't think Johnson said anything different.

Not just that but he forced him to train despite Williams telling him it was hurting. If Williams hadn't have trained it would have been a breach of his contract as Johnson is clearly a medical expert.

He nearly ruined the lad. He didn't believe him. He publicly embarrassed him and questioned his character.

I've been very vocal on this in the past. Today I am absolutely delighted for him. Probably a stand out moment of the last few years. Johnson tried damn hard to break him. Well that is the best two fingers up to Johnson.

I can tell you that the mental aspects Williams had to overcome were because Johnson didn't believe he was injured. Which in turn made the injury even worse.

I don't like to criticise people. But what Johnson put Williams through was unforgivable. He was broken physically and Johnson broke him mentally. Or tried. Today showed just what strength of character Williams really has.

Your very close in your assessment. Although the medics in Aus diagnosed that the ball in the hip joint wasn't correctly aligned. The British medics were unable to diagnose exactly what the problem was to cause the pain and inflammation. Johnson decided that Williams needed to "fight through the pain", and then started to question if he did even have any pain.

No it showed that Williams can kick a ball into an empty net.

Which we're all mightily grateful for.

Not being funny but have you got proof on what you're saying because in my opinion Johnson hasn't said anything different to what PH has said today. When Williams kept breaking down it is quite possibly physical and mentally being afraid to push himself for fear of doing more damage.

Williams broke down because his hip was out of alignment.

It was never anything to do with him not being mentally strong enough.

But PH said today that part of his injury was also down to his mental state which in credit to the player he seems to have overcome. One more thing although I can't be sure I don't think a manager can over ride the medical reports. So I don't think Johnson or PH could make him train without the proper medical autherisation.
