This Barnsley team reminds me a bit of the 1999/00 vintage in some respects.

This season we are joint 2nd top scorers, but have the 5th worst defence.
In 1999/00 we were the top scorers, yet had the joint 6th worst defence.

    Keith Brown, the weakest link.

Not securing Arjan De Zeeuw on a contract was the biggest faux pas of Bassett. Compounded by Brown replacing him. I reckon with De Zeeuw we'd have gone up automatically.

Ok - we have just put £5 million in the bank.
But in doing so we have left a 5 million pound hole in the middle of defence.
I'm not saying it was a bad thing that he was sold - but it does take some filling

Watching Swansea he doesn't really look like £5mil worth.

I'd have him back in a heartbeat don't get me wrong, but I think we got a very good deal.

This is a young, hungry group, certainly a better 'team', and playing far better football.

2000 was an odd mix of poor ageing short term signings completely reliant on individual performances of others, usually masked by the brilliance of Hignett. Never fully enjoyed it cos all the warning signs were there of what was to follow.

    Give me 2016 any day.

He's really climbed two rungs in one go. Not ideal for him.
