Seem to remember playing Birmingham recently around this time of the year with this coming tie on New Year's Eve being the third.

Didn't Keith Hill get sacked after a shocking double against Blackburn and Birmingham (same in between Christmas and New Year double as this season)?.

Also, I remember Jacob Mellis scoring a free kick at a similar time of the year at St Andrews (possibly just after New Year and before the FA Cup).

Seems to be a Christmas fixture recently.

Had a similar discussion with my brother yesterday. I said I thought he beat Birmingham for a stay of execution but lost to Blackburn and that was his last game.

Turns out he lost both. Brum on Boxing Day and Blackburn on the 29th. The win was at Millwall a few days before Xmas.

Flicker got sacked after we lost 3-0 at home to Birmingham as at the well back of end November, that was the season we drew at their place and also the debut of one Brek Shea

I believe the fixtures around Christmas are designed with the travel distances in mind.

They try and avoid local derbies but keep the 2 teams fairly close together.

In recent memory we've played Preston, Burnley, Blackburn, Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds and S****horpe on boxing day or New Years.

That Mellis free kick was in a 1-1 draw on new year's day I think. I was brutally hung over.
