In terms of counter attacking I can't ever recall a Barnsley side that shows the pace, power and desire to turn defence into attack! There were times yesterday when we went from 11 men defending to 7 attacking in a matter of seconds!

Great to see and clear that the team morale is a key factor with everyone fighting for each other .....but add in a few quality players epitomised by Captain Conor & led by One of our own it's been an amazing 2016!

Watching the reds over the years has been a roller coaster ride and at the moment we are certainly on the up!

Thanks Reds, Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

You'd be hard pressed to be the side managed by Norman Hunter

I agree, it'd be difficult to be all 11 players at the same time.

Only problem was and still is of the 7 attackers one will be shooting down the wing with the ball one will be overlapping one will be in the penalty area and the rest will be ambling forward.

    Sorry Tyrone
Hunter inherited Alan Clarkes team and destroyed it. He lost us McCarthy by leaving him out. Remember him coming on to play when not fit, and in first twenty minutes he was skinned and we were two goals down. He came limping off as though he had being great and had lost us game.
Good player in his day but I do not think he was a good manager.
These lads now are very good and if we can keep our manager and the players next year will be even better

Can't agree there, both Clarke and Hunters sides were great.
Either way in answer to the OP both those sides were actually our players not a mix of ours and loanees so would win by default. That's not to denigrate the present team which is playing in a different era and operating system.

Can't agree with that mate. It was inevitable that some players would move on and any manager would have struggled to replace them with players of the same quality on our budget. The team of 1981/2 was certainly Clarke's but I think they played a more attractive style than under Clarke and at a higher level. Norman deserves credit for that.

A bit light at the back mate, and who's going in goal?

Totally agree. Hunter inherited a very good side from Alan Clarke and it went downhill after he took over. Poor manager.

You obviously don't back to the days of Tommy Taylor, Danny Blanchflower, Cec McCormack etc......

Went downhill? We got promoted in Hunter's first season and finished about 6th in his second while getting to the League Cup quarter final and drawing at Anfield against the then European Champions. I'd have loved to have seen us go uphill under him.

Clarke took us out of the bottom tier and Hunter took us into the second tier, both great feats imo.

    "Like"

Probably not needed cos we'd be in the opposition's half for 90 minutes...

Clarke. Built. The side Hunter nurtured it. Ultimately. As a club we didn't have enough cash to push on

One thing for sure. It's the best side to watch since then
